Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Straightforward Laserjet We replaced a HP Laserjet 401dne when it reported paper jam that could note be fixed with the 4001dn. The new Laserjet is faster, also has double sided printing, and is straightforward in its operation. Installation was simple with connecting the power cord and the Cat 5 computer cable. The printers was rapidly recognized and the installation software quickly downloaded. Next is to see if it will also last 10 years as the HP 401dne printer did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JulesLeGrand from Easy Two-Page Printing a true bonus Easy Two-Page Printing, a true bonus has been the outstanding feature for me with my LJ 4001. My previous LJ was a very reliable workhorse but two-page printing was complicated and open to many errors if you didn't get it quite right when printing on one side then having to reinsert the half-printed pages in a special way. I gave up very quickly. But now, there is none of that, you choose two-sided printing and the paper leaves the cassette and the 4001 does it all in a flash. The printer itself is much more compact and all the functions I seeker performed flawlessly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MBean from Wow! What a printer! We looked at several printers and the main thing we needed was a bypass tray to print checks on demand. The printer we have been using (an HP P1505n) is 14+ years old and is on its way out. While the product pics don't show it, there is a pull down bypass tray on this printer. We unboxed it, connected power and a network cable, and ran the install. Voila! Could not have been easier. Technology has come a long way since we bought the last printer and this HP 4100dn is smooth, fast, and quiet. And the auto-duplex function is really nice.

I am considering returning it, because turning it off and on every time I want to print is not working for me! I'm going to look for solutions online first, but was so frustrated at the time the email came requestions the review that I took time to complete it.

I would like to know in what direction do you need to insert the paper for it to print? I am printing checks and want to make it prints in the correct sequence. Th lowest number is on the top, with the largest number on the bottom.

Will this printer allow printing to the rear output by opening the rear door? We have found where printing envelopes or card stock works better if there is a "pass through". I realize that duplex printing would not work if rear door is open.

The rear tray is not an output tray. It is a rear access panel to help clear paper jams if they happen.
