Very hard to figure out problems with it.
I am not sure I am glad that I bought this one. It worked at first but after about a couple of weeks it now will not print the files on my computer that I want to make a copy of.

Multi tank printer
Setting up the printer to operate wirelessly was a bit of a problem amd the instructions could be improved. It would help if you realized some 82 yr old men still have to set up their own equipment and simple step by step directions are a God send. The printer prints color and black and white well and my wife is happy when I print her quilt patterns for her in color. Look forward to multi years without having to buy additional ink and change out cartridges. The next test will be printing out our 2025 income tax returns

Prints beautifully, but design deficiencies outweigh everything else
I admit I didn't do good research when I chose this product; I did not know the paper would be held outside the machine, subjecting it to changes in humidity, static, etc. I also didn't realize it doesn't do automatic two-sided printing, which is a feature I need, so if you need it, too, don't buy this machine.
I wanted ink tanks to keep from constantly having to change cartridges; it was very easy to introduce the inks, and the quality of printing is excellent.
Other than that, all the indicators and buttons are on top of the machine, which makes it very awkward to read any error messages unless you place the printer well below eye level. That definitely didn't work for me. Paper loading is incredibly awkward and inconvenient, and the slot for paper very badly designed. This makes double-sided printing a real pain, since you have to manually re-insert the paper to do that.
The upshot is that I'm giving it to a non-profit who won't be troubled by these deficiencies and buying an Epson that's better designed. Expensive lesson. Learn from mine.

HP Printer 5100
The only problem with this printer is figuring out how to put cartridges in initially. There is not a pictorial step by step on how to remove the packing inside the printer. Other than that, printer works fine.

Overall good product
When I received this printer I was expecting beautiful prints out of box. Was a little disappointed at the beginning. The prints were blurry and there was an unbearable beeping noise coming out of the back the printer - tried resetting and it didn’t help. Suddenly the noise stopped, I changed the printing settings in the software and this machine finally showed what it is capable of! I have to say it is a bit slow but the quality is very good. It’s easy to set up and filling out the cartridges with ink is sort of fun! Other than it being slow the only other con I noticed so far is if you print small cards they don’t line up straight so the print comes out not aligned to the card. Other then that it’s a really good product and hopefully the inks will not run out too fast!

An Amazing printer that you didn’t know you needed
I absolutely love this printer! It was a breeze to set up. Super simple and easy breezy to install. Set up took about 20 minutes before I was up and printing. This printer comes with up to three years of bonus ink. I really like the fact that the ink cartridges are refillable which you’re frankly makes the ink more affordable. Printing is fast and the printer is not loud at all. I love that I can print, copy and scan all from my phone. This printer is just super easy to use and a pleasure to own. The ink comes out clear and there is no smudging. This printer is the best printer I’ve ever owned. I do not regret this purchase.

I didn’t expect this!
I’ve been using laser printers for decades, and I was always under the impression that inkjet printers could never match the quality and day to day yield of a laser printer. This product has happily proved me wrong. No smudges yet, no paper jams and the colors are surprisingly vibrant. This was definitely a must have for my home office, and I’m beyond happy with this product and purchase. I highly recommend!

HP Smart Tank 5104 review
My favourite thing about the HP smart Tank 5104 has to be the ink situation. I was so tired of buying expensive cartriges, and the giant ink tanks on this thing are a game changer. They are easy to fill and ink seems to last forever, which is huge money saver. The print quality is great for my regular documents and I really like the borderless photos printing feature. Other than being ink tank, the wireless feature really add a lot of value. I like that I can print wirelessly from my phone via Hp Smart app or laptop which is very convenient.
However, my biggest complaint is that it doesn't have automatic duplex printing. This is a big let down for me. You have to manually flip the pages over to print on both sides, which is a huge pain and a feature I really miss from my old printer. For regular home use, it's been a reliable printer.

This is the printer that will be long lasting
The HP Smart Tank 5104 is just smart. From opening the box, it was Easy everything. you need to be at least a little mechanical to install ink into the individual areas, install the print heads & connect wirelessly to your wifi router. Easy start directions on the HP app make it really great for you. I love that the entire family can print wireless from their phone or laptop too. Works great as a copier (Color or B&W modes by one button) , a scanner (to file), and printer ( B&W, Color). It’s very sturdy and prints quickly. This is a printer I finally see lasting for our home. With it being flat you can also set some light items atop in the printer area on the desk.

HP is raising the bar with the Smart Tank 5104
HP finally enters the refillable ink game, and I couldn't be more excited.
The printer was packaged wonderfully! I loved the bag that assisted me in removing the printer from the box, rather than having to jiggle and shake it out.
The ink was very easy to install, and there was no-mess.
The printed alignment sheet had beautiful, rich color with no missing pixels.
The design of the HP Smart Tank is sleek and modern.
I’m excited to see if the HP continues to outperform the other refillable tank printers.

“Easy Setup, Clear Prints, and Zero Hassle”
I just started using the HP Smart Tank 5104, and I’m honestly impressed with how smooth everything has been so far. The setup was quick, the ink tanks were super easy to fill, and I love that I can actually see the ink levels from the front of the printer. The printing quality is sharp for documents and nice and vibrant for color pages. It also connects to Wi-Fi easily, so I’ve already printed straight from my phone without needing any cables. So far, it’s quiet, clean, and really feels like the kind of printer that’ll save me money on ink in the long run. Definitely happy with this purchase!

Fast and easy set up. High quality printing
I was super exited to try out the HP Smart Tank 5104. Previously I always had cartridge printers and the ink went fast especially having two kids in school. The ink on the HP Smart Tank 5104 is super easy to refil but it also lasts a long time which is great. The printer was very easy to set up and is even easy enough for my grade school aged children to use without needing any help. It prints in high quality and also can scan any documents you need copies of. The HP app is super easy to set up and very easy to navigate. It’s highly rated for a reason. Overall this is a great printer.

HP finally enters the refillable ink game
HP has finally entered the refillable ink game, and the The HP Smart Tank 5104 doesn't disappoint. The printing & scanning quality is excellent, I'd definitely recommend this printer. I do wish 5 GHz was an option but tbh 2.4 ghz has better range so probably the better choice anyhow. So the lack of 5 GHz really isn't an issue but an advantage.

Perfect All-In-One Printer
This printer is the best one in the recent times. I replaced a Brother all in one with this printer. No Regrets. Setup is a breeze with the app. I believe the ink tanks are a huge improvement over the old tech individual cartridges which were expensive and did not contain much toner. Printing from the phone works great. I like using the app that comes with it and the fact that I don’t have to sign up for a subscription for ink which seems like a racket. I’ve had it a few days and I’m loving it so far . Great print quality, speed and utility for the price. Highly recommend and would buy again if needed.

affordable printing at home!
After spending the last few years fighting with an aging laser printer, finally decided to purchase a smart printer with refillable ink. The setup process is very easy, and HP has done a really good job with how easy it is to fill these ink tanks with their proprietary system.
Looks: The printer itself is lightweight and has an overall small to medium footprint, plus has a nice clean modern look that fits well in my office.
Print Quality: very good quality for every document I have printed so far. No issues or complaints.
Print Speed: for occasional printing, this will print a few pages per minute. If you're coming from a laser printer, it will likely seem slow, but if you're printing thousands of pages per month, this probably isn't the right style printer for you anyway.
Cost Effectiveness: the included ink is advertised to last around three years. If that is the case, this is an incredible value vs the standard home printer business model we consumers have been subjected to over the past thirty plus years.
Overall, if you just want a printer that works- look no further. From unboxing to being ready to print is under ten minutes, and the thought of not having to purchase any more ink over the next several years is a relief.
Really happy with this product and highly recommend to families who just need a printer at home for occasional use.

Nice home printer
I think this HP printer is a good deal. It's not too big or bulky and is lower maintenance than other printers. The print quality is good for documents, forms, maps, birthday invitations and flyers. I would recommend this printer to friends and family if they are looking for an option that is medium sized and low-maintenance.

Compact, Efficient, and Mess-Free
The first thing I noticed when unpacking this is how compact it is compared to my previous printer. Even the feed and output trays can collapse inside of the printer’s body, making it very space-efficient. While a detailed print manual is included, I chose to scan the QR code on the manual using my phone. With that, you get the same step by step instructions but with helpful animations guiding you through the initial setup.
This was my first experience with an ink tank printer and I was a little apprehensive about getting printer ink all over the place, but the click and fill design couldn't be simpler. All you have to do is insert the bottle into its respective reservoir and press down until you hear a click. Ink won’t flow from the bottle unless it is inserted into the reservoir spout, and there is an autoseal mechanism that stops the flow when you remove the bottle. Totally painless and, because ink tank printers can hold so much more ink than traditional cartridge printers, you won’t have to do it as often anyway. So the setup is straightforward, but what about the one thing (in my opinion at least) that can make or break a printer - its software? Well so far, it’s been working flawlessly. Both the HP MacOS software and iPhone app are sleekly designed, with all the printer actions, options, and settings easily accessible. It also shows you how much ink you have in each of the reservoirs, which is nice. In the few days that I’ve had it, I’ve never had any issues printing what I needed. The print quality is great too. I printed out a recipe with an image to test it, and the text was clear and defined, while the color photo appeared crisp and vivid.
Overall, if you’re looking for a compact, yet full-featured printer for a home office or dorm room, I can confidently recommend the HP Smart Tank 5104. The only thing you’re really missing here is an automated document feeder for scanning, but unless you’re regularly scanning multipage documents, I don’t think the added bulk is worth it, especially in a space-constrained environment.

The perfect home office printer
I've had a bone to pick with traditional ink cartridge printers for years. Not only do the cartridges tend to be obscenely expensive, but adding insult to injury, I've had issues with the ink drying out in the cartridges, leading to smudgy or splotchy prints! The HP Smart Tank 5104 provides a compelling alternative, using integrated ink tanks with refillable liquid ink bottles instead. With the included ink rated to last several thousand pages, I don’t foresee myself needing to go out and buy more ink anytime soon. Even when I do, the cost per print is dramatically lower than cartridge printers.
Setup was exceedingly simply following the animated instructions on the app and the HP software used to control the printer is well designed and a breeze to use. I haven’t had any issues with my print jobs getting lost to the wind or encountering those annoying random errors some printers throw constantly.
To test its color printing chops, I printed Henri Matisse's "The Snail," a challenging piece with overlapping colors and sharp boundaries. The results looked true to form, with color boundaries well defined and with little to no overspill. Text documents also look crisp and black ink is properly saturated, not that grayish look you sometimes get with budget printers.
While the print speed won’t break any records, I would recommend this without reservation for anyone looking for a compact, space saving printer for lighter workloads. It's been the perfect addition to my admittedly cramped home office.

Beautiful Prints
The HP Smart Tank 5104 prints absolutley gorgeous prints. The colors were absolutley stunning and surreal. I've never been impressed by a printer before.
However the one con that really irritated me was intial set up.
I was forced to download an app in order to use the printer. This isn't something I fully appreciated. Coming from an era where everything is plug and play, the need to download an app for every single function in my life is tedious and added a lot of unnecessary stress and time to the set up.
Wifi connection worked easily afterward. But what an absolute pain to go through making an account with HP and dealing with an app hogging limited space on my phone just to make it work. Not a fan of this and it absolutley would hinder me from buying from HP again.
That aside filling the ink was super easy. You just open the traps and stab them into the slot to fill up the ink. Super easy and clean. I did like this.
Refills you buy on HP and shouldn't need it for ages. Years from what the box says
But I find this hard to swallow. We shall see.
All in all. Excellent fast prints. Set up was a jagged little pill, but for the most part I am enjoying the printer.

Great once I got it working
Well it's called HP Smart Tank and I thought I was smart also. But it took me well over an hour to finally get it working. The instructions could have been a little more clear. I do like that it said it includes 3 years of ink. Let's hope that part is true. The best feature is that you can refill the ink from bottles instead of buying expensive ink cartridges.

Finally!!!
We've been looking for a new printer for a few months and the HP Smart Tank 5104 hits all the ideals we were looking for. Honestly having tanks that may not need to be replaced for up to three years is beyond great. There's nothing like trying to print something and your ink cartridges are running low. The size of the printer is also not very large so it doesn't stick out like an eyesore and blends in well with the space it's currently in. Setting up was no problem following the steps in the hp app and within fifteen minutes or so I was printing off halloween coloring projects for my kids. The print quality is top notch and printing speed is awesome for longer documents that need to be printed. Overall a great product and I'd recommend to anyone who is on the fence to take the plunge.

Disappointed in HP Smart printer
I have used HP printers for years but none were the HP Smart printers. This printer was suppose to be even better. I never had issues with my lower cost HO printers but the ink cartridges are expensive so I wanted to try the new smart printer. I have had nothing but trouble connecting the printer to my laptop. I’ve even had your tech department get into my laptop twice. They say it’s fixed but it doesn’t stay fixed. This has caused me a lot of stress when I needed documents quickly. It only happens when printing from my laptop to the printer. I can print from my phone or from online apps. Help!

Easy setup - sort of
Although I have owned a variety of printers over the years, I have never owned a tank style printer, and was curious to try one out. I used the app to do the setup, and was honesty expecting the ink filling process to be a messy disaster. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to put the refill bottle onto the tank. It was clean and simple, not a single drop of ink out of place!
I was a little surprised to see what appeared to be ink cartridges in the box, however, those are the print heads, which fill with the ink from the tanks as needed. I also love the view of the ink tanks from outside the printer, so that you can tell when a refill is needed, without having to turn on the printer to check.
I did have some issues with an exceptionally annoying faint beeping sound when everything was finalized, and after googling extensively, discovered it is a very common issue. None of the “support” topic solutions helped. However, I left the room for an hour, and when I came back, it was gone, and the sound has not returned. So if it happens to you as well, save your time, and just let it sit for a couple of hours and it seems to sort itself out on its own. ;)
I am really amazed at the quality of printing. I wasn’t really expecting much, but the quality is quite good, and I am very happy with the purchase. If you have been tempted to try a tank printer, this is definitely a solid contender.

Great home office printer
I was excited to find a printer that comes with no spill ink in bottles to easily refill. The supply that comes with the printer is suppose to last Three years. I love this because I hate running out of ink and having to order more. The bottles made me nervous at first but they did not leak when I connected them to add the ink.
Setting up the printer was a breeze. It had a qr code to use to for set up. It connects to HP print app. You can even print remotely if needed. The printer is light weight and smaller so it doesn't take up much room.
It does good quality high volume printing which is wonderful for a home business. I even printed some photos on photo paper. The smaller prints were very good quality. Larger prints like 8 X 10 had some small defects.
Printing was quick and smooth. I did have some problems with paper jams when loading paper. The jams were easily fixed.

The only printer you need!
I have avoided buying a home printer, due to the last one I owned needing ink constantly! It felt more economical to utilize a print and ship location, then on my own. This all changed with the HP smart tank! It has enough ink for three years! That was a selling point for me-but it has continued to blow my mind with what is capable of and how easy it is to use. I had it set up within 10 minutes out of the box.

This HP Smart Tank 5104 printer was quite simple to set up. We did it in about 15 minutes. I like the fact that there are ink tanks instead of the cartridges. This will, print, scan and copy with ease. The letters on the printed paper are nice and crisp like you would want them. We can also link it to our phones and print an email or document from our phone directly to the printer with the blue tooth feature. The printer is a great size to keep on a home office desk without taking up much room yet still giving quality prints.

Time It Takes to Print
I just recently bought the HP Smart Tank 5101, I love the crisp colors but the machine takes a long time recognizing and printing. The other day it wouldn't print and I had to delete the printer from the computer and redo everything all over again which was a hassle since I was in a time crunch to get documents printed.
Other than that, I have only had it installed for two weeks so I cannot give any more insight in the long run of it's performance.

Not as advertised - will require internet to set up, prints lots of guides but not what is needed.
Unable to get printer to operate as advertised. The Wi Fi direct print requires internet access. Information on this is sparse and the ability of Tech Support to assist is limited - requires internet access. I have two tickets trying to get this addressed, both closed by HP Support with problem still occurring. Big issue with HP Support is that they do not understand the situation. First, I bought the printer for work. They want to do a bunch of stuff while I need to work. Time to sit on the phone with them, disconnect from chat and wait to reconnect takes up valuable time. Second all the solutions are cookie cutter or simply follow this guide - this is already not working. Third, the printer keeps printing pages and pages of guides. I have a lot of paper and ink used to print copies of what was already printed.
