I'm sorry,
Apparently I put too much information in my previous review of this item.
Or there was some other issue with the "terms & conditions" that I'm not aware of.
So, I'm writing again.
This is , therefore, "the next time" that I'm writing a review on this printer.
These are the facts.
I bought this printer and needed to use it for an urgent matter.
After using it I would have felt bad returning the printer as "used" to the store.
It's not the store's fault that it has obvious shortcomings.
(As other's have pointed out on the dealer's web site upon which I also wrote a negative review.)
When I tried to set it up the day of purchase, I was never able to connect it to my WIFI even with "support".
After spending an hour on the phone with support, I gave up I connected it to my router via Ethernet cable.
I have continued to use it till now and need to let people at HP know (again) what a horrible thing it is.
One would assume a printer could be used independently of being connected to the internet.
i.e Lose internet and you lose the ability to print.
The scan function is also almost worthless in that regard.
I am a repeat customer of HP. And I like to think that I'm a reasonable person.
HP has my contact information and I would be happy to hear from them regarding a resolution or a "fix" in lieu of publishing the review.
(They contacted me re my previous review that they would not publish).
So, I hope this meets HP's "guidelines" since electronic communications seem to be the preferred way of contacting each other now.
However, contacting "support" would be a futile waste of more time.

Easiest printer to setup
Bought at Staples today sales person was very helpful and answered all my questions. Have an older Mac and was one of the only printers that still supported the operating system. Also setting up was the easiest printer to install and I have setup a few other printers over the years. Just minutes no long phone calls to support with some one you have a hard time understanding.

Great machine IF...
Great machine if you sign up for HP+ if you don't it flashes constantly and refuses to print, scan, or be a usable machine without multiple steps wasting paper and ink. Horrible product forcing software to use even when bypassing internet and using direct usb cable. Wont be buying HP again.

Printer does not scan. After an hour with Tech Support, their conclusion was that it supports photo scan, which it does, but not regular scans, even though it has a scanner. There was also a talk about the Android app not supporting scans, and a trove of other excuses.

Good for my needs
The printer does everything I need it to do. Connecting it was a bit tricky. The print quality is fine. I wasn't expecting much considering it is an inexpensive printer. The printer itself seems a little cheaply made but again, it was to be expected. We will see if it stands the test of time. I give a 5 star rating for the Bonus 6 months of toner.

It was extremely difficult and time-consuming to set up the wireless. Your tech support tried to help me but gave up, and I wasn't able to get it connected until the next day. The panel was way too hard to use. It doesn't print Word documents two-sided - REALLY? It looks and fees cheap - I hate the whole thing and I returned it to HP.

Worst printer ever
This is the worst printer I have ever purchased. It will work for a short period after install (30 minutes tops), then will stop completely. The attention light will flash for no reason, and the printer must be reset to factory state. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

Internet connection required to print
This printer would be a 5 star review if it didn't have to connect to the internet to print. There is no reason why I printer cannot just be plugged into a computer and function as designed. Huge step backwards imo. If your goal was to force people to go paperless, good job. I won't buy another one after this experience.
PS. I love when it says it is ready and everything is green via the HP Smart app but printing a document via HP Smart says it is offline....

Mobile App SUCKS!
I bought this unit from Office Depot yesterday and brought it home and did the set up. My computers fired right up and worked fine (slow), however, the problem is the mobile app with iPhone's. It will send the document to the printer and not print or print just a line across the paper. Called Tech Support and we were on the phone for over 3 hours!! Still could not get the app to work and even the Tech said the app was junk.. I am keeping it because I like the all in one toner and drum but this printer is very slow. I might go check out the Brother and Cannon to see if they work better and if so, this one will be returned or donate it.

This printer requires an internet connection to work. Absolutely will not work without it. So, if you just want a printer connected to your computer via USB, but you don't need to or want to or can't connect it to the internet, too bad.

Watch out if you click on the help chat!
I like it ok. I went on the chat to get help installing it and a scammer was on the the line. Some how they intercepted the call. HP said someone would be calling me. My phone rang and it said Spam Call. I answered and next thing I know he was telling me I needed virus protection. He asked for remote entrance into my computer to clean it up. So I gave him my credit card info. It turned out to be a mess. Getting ahold of my bank getting a new card.

Installation Risks Abound
Lot of research to find this model and ran into installation problems, and yes I read instructions and purchased an extended warranty just in case.
First going for help the serial number of the unit was not active in the HP systems and that precluded me from directly accessing support. There was one other review that mentioned this problem so is anyone at HP reading these?
Spent about two hours working on the install. We have 3 active users which means both iphone and mac installs. My stongest user helped and gave up much earlier. Stumbling blocks included multiple apps that are under the 123.hp.com app menu. One wanted 20 / month for its use, really ? Found the hp intended one using the QR code. Later required another download of a different app, plus the original needed an update. Got one good picture to print so the quality appears there, but could not get a document to print. Picture was good quality.
Printer showed as active but the apps kept saying it was offline and the icon for activating would not activate it in the apps on both the phone and the computers. The items sent to print sat in a que as unprinted without a way to submit again or fix the printer.
Never got a confirmation that the apps were fully functional or that I installed all the possibilities desired, always felt like there was another hidden step somewhere ahead. Always liked the HP at work, and I have a 15Yr old hp1020 going strong.
Maybe your experience will be better.... or just look for an easier install reviews.
As noted in another review, the phone appears to become the new middle man in working rather than computer to printer. Maybe there is a way to fix that but sorry time is money and for me it was time to let go and move on. I did reach out to sales and amazingly they wanted me to buy the same model at a cheaper price. She did not connect the conversation exchanges asking if there was a better model with a more plug and play install then this one that is not working. I am willing to pay more to make it easier. She offered a contact number to call but my time was up. Time to move onto another printer company.
So, assuming not fault in the hardware ?, the interfaces are not coordinated or confirming completion, other than the connection to our mesh network. Just felt like I was in circular loop with no milestones or markers, no cures to fix problems, the hp self diagnostic failed .
To return you have to fill out a questionnaire with the promise of a response within 5 days, heck I am ready to ship tomorrow. Will pack up tonight.

The HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe Printer is great. Switching from an InkJet to a LaserJet is the right choice for my small business. I seldom print and when I do it is always in black. I will not be spending any more money on ink consumables. Plus the 6 month free of cartridge refills is a deal in itself.

Have to connect to internet or the printer is disabled!
I will not purchase another HP printer if they all have to be setup online. There should not be a requirement to connect a printer to the internet in order to set it up. I do not wish to be able to print from an email, mobile phone, etc. I just want to connect my printer via USB and move on. This printer was disabled until we finished setup by connecting it to the internet! We are a small business with 15 employees and over a dozen HP printers. If they are all required to go through this meaningless online setup we will look for another manufacturer.

Good but could be great
Printing is as advertised and meets expectations. The scanning program does not meet expectations. Individual or single sided scans are generally good although the thumbnail look at the scan cannot be enlarged. The most frustrating lack of capability is two-sided document scanning with the feeder. The current capability has the entire one side scanned pages and then the entire other side scanned pages. Organizing the pages into a correct sequenced document is extremely frustrating. I hope that the future software will enable more robust scanning.

The printer is not oversold. It does everything promised—printing from my iPhone and Dell laptop and older Dell workstation via the Microsoft cloud. The HP printer software has to be installed on the phone and laptop to establish the blu tooth connection. Relatively simple operation.

The right size printer/scanner for my local printer in a network setting
I bought this to use as a local printer/scanner in an office setting. We have a network printer with multiple trays that I also use, but this 234sdw is used exclusively by me. I am the accountant here, and I scan monthly invoices and write about 10 or so paper checks each month. The 234sdw only has one tray, but that's okay considering the presence of a network printer, and the scanner's two sided option is manual. Considering the relatively light usage, the 234sdw is perfect. If I printed more, or if I had to scan more than the 234 might show limitations, but I absolutely love it for what I need it to do.
