G’day, tech-savvy Aussies! If you’ve recently scored a pair of AirPods and want to use them with your Windows laptop, you’re in luck. While these sleek wireless earbuds are designed for optimal use with Apple devices, they work brilliantly with any Bluetooth-enabled gadget – including your HP laptop. Whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne, or the Outback, we’ve got you covered with this easy guide to connecting your AirPods to your Windows laptop.
Before we dive in, it’s worth noting that this process works for all AirPods models, including the standard AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. Plus, these steps apply to most Bluetooth devices, so you can use this guide for other wireless earbuds or headphones too.
Prepare your AirPods: Place your AirPods in their charging case and ensure they have at least 20% battery life.
Open the AirPods case: Keep the AirPods inside the open case for the pairing process.
Activate pairing mode: Press and hold the small, circular setup button on the back of the case until you see the LED light flashing.
Access Windows Settings: Click the Windows logo in the bottom left corner (Windows 10) or bottom taskbar (Windows 11) to open the Start Menu, then click the gear icon to open Settings.
Navigate to Bluetooth settings:
For Windows 11: Click “Bluetooth & devices” in the left-hand column.
For Windows 10: Click “Devices”, then “Bluetooth & other devices”.
Add a new device:
For Windows 11: Click the blue “Add Device” button.
For Windows 10: Click “Add Bluetooth or other device”.
Select Bluetooth: Choose “Bluetooth” from the options presented.
Choose your AirPods: Select your AirPods from the list of available devices.
Finish up: Click “Done” when you see the “Your device is ready to go” message.
Now you’re all set to enjoy your favourite tunes or podcasts through your AirPods on your HP laptop!
Once paired, your AirPods should automatically connect to your HP laptop when in range. However, if you want to switch between devices, you’ll need to manually connect or disconnect.
To do this:
Open the Bluetooth menu as described above.
Find your AirPods in the list of devices.
Click “Connect” or “Disconnect” as needed.
If you need to remove your AirPods from your laptop’s Bluetooth list, follow these steps:
Open the Start Menu and go to Settings.
Navigate to the Bluetooth settings as described earlier.
Find your AirPods in the list of devices.
For Windows 11: Click the three vertical dots next to the AirPods and select “Remove device”.
For Windows 10: Click “Remove device” under the AirPods listing.
Having trouble connecting? No worries, mate! Try these troubleshooting tips:
Check the battery: Ensure your AirPods are charged.
Reset your AirPods:
For AirPods and AirPods Pro: Place them in the case, close the lid, wait 30 seconds, then open and try again.
For AirPods Max: Press and hold the Digital Crown and Noise Control buttons until you see an amber LED light.
Check your laptop’s Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is turned on in your laptop settings.
Use Windows troubleshooter:
Open Start Menu > Settings > System (Windows 11) or Updates & Security (Windows 10)
Click “Troubleshoot” > “Other troubleshooters” > “Bluetooth”
