Rated 3 out of 5 by Silver sage from Hp printer Mostly decent printer overall. The feed tray is goofy, has a little plastic flap that hinders functionality. Can’t fit much paper in the feed tray, and it seemingly has slight intermittent paper feeding issues. However having said that it has been functional thus far, just wish that paper feed tray was designed a bit better and it could hold more than 10 sheets of paper at a time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CiHa from Good Printer for the Price The printer arrived quickly. However, the directions for it's use are lacking. I'm still having trouble printing in color, but I guess I'll figure it out. I've learned that it's easier to print from the HP app not the my computer print application, which is odd. It is a decent printer for my needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DonCarv from Horrible Experience After receiving a printer that would not print my checks, I returned it and HP sent me this one that did. There was no input on my part. This was the replacement. After having a print cartridge problem, I realized this second printer did not do two-sided prints, which I do on just about all my printing. There is no excuse for this horrible service. I'm keeping this printer because I am tired of going through all this crap. But I will never do business with HP again. A lot of hassle and didn't end up with what I wanted.

Even HP refund the amount paid but the insurance and ink paid was a loss. A piece of junk beware before purchasing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MegM from Decent Printer for Home This printer was struggling at first, had to contact support to get an update on the driver. I would have thought those updates would happen right away without someone remote-connecting to my computer. The issue seems to be resolved though and we will see how long the scanner works (had to upgrade because my last scanner malfunctioned and was out of warranty). I do wish that hp offered a smaller home version.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Saljam from You get what you pay for I purchased this printer to help me be more efficient in my office and was attracted by the low price. When I received it I disappointed to find how small the ink cartridges were, and that the color cartridge contains all three colors. It took a lot of work to get it connected to the wifi. When it was connected I found the printing and scanning to be very slow. Also, I discovered the document tray feeder was inoperative. I also have a HP6978 which is much faster and reliable, with individual color ink cartridges.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tommy Py from Great but… The set up wasn’t too bad but with a little patience I was able to get through it because the instructions were general, but not specific enough particularly the control panel should have an explanation for each button. The quality of printing was excellent and fast. The document feeder worked, but I can’t get it to print the document I inserted into the feeder. There was no specific instructions on the use and troubleshooting of the document feeder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LLtrysit from Copy, scan, and mobile printing My first use of the HP DeskJet 4255e was to make some copies. Since the printer/copier/scanner is only plugged in when needed, it took multiple tries to plug it in and print because the plug kept falling out, which resulted in an annoying paper jam. Later on, with more patience and using the HP app for help, was able to clear the jam myself and finish making the copies. I like the mobile printing function. After downloading the HP app, documents can be sent to the printer while I’m out and about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by autnchris from HP Printers Hands down, HP printer's are the best there is. With the easy to follow instructions or with a disk it is so easy to set up your new printer. Super easy to upload and install. Somewhat a little difficult with wi-fi. But would buy HP Printers everytime.

Rated 4 out of 5 by tcrone69 from It's a good printer, however.... It's a good printer, however, the top part for documents has us both scratching our heads. Neither one of us has seen any instructions on how to work this piece. The printer does a good job printing, standard HP printer stuff. It's better for home use and not for office only because it doesn't make "sharp images" as I agree with one reviewer. HP makes good printers and the ability to have both ink and paper with Instant Ink saves us both time and money (so I'm not running to the store for ink).

Rated 5 out of 5 by LadyJJ from Perfect printer for my home and family The HP DeskJet 4255e All-in-One Printer its the perfect printer for me as a someone who resells clothes online. It is very easy to switch from regular paper to labels. Having the paper feeder where I could see was a plus. The convinience of having a feeder to copy pages on the outside its perfect since i do not have to continusly open the printer, I can just put all pages at once. This printer also saves a ton of ink since I print labels, reports, and my grandchild uses for school. The other amazing thing about this printer is that we can print from any device and from anywhere in our home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Clobel from Great Printer The HP 4255e all in one inkjet printer is an allround office/home solution. The printer is very well built and is lightweight. It is white in color with a gray accent. It has a small LCD display and several function buttons. It was very easy to set up using the HPSmart app. It comes with two sets of ink, a color cartridge and a black. This printer can be used via USB, Wi-Fi direct, or it can be connected to a network via Wi-Fi. I was able to install it on my Windows PC without the app and Android OS using the HP smart app. If you want to be able to use all the printer features in Windows OS, you will be required to download the HP Smart app. I was not able to use the scanner without the HP smart app. I tried using it with Windows' own scan app, but the printer didn’t even show up on the list. The windows scan app is very limited. Also, you will not be able to scan using HP's own app unless you create an HP account, which I found troublesome. There are two ways to scan, using the automatic feeder or the flat glass. The glass supports paper size up to A4 or Letter 8.5x11. It seems that this scanner does not support dual side scan. The scan quality is pretty good. When scanning you have to manually select the source as the printer is not smart enough to figure where the document is located. Scanning quality is good and goes up to 1200 dpi with the lowest at 300. The scanning speed was fast and very quiet. Printing s fast and easy with good quality. This printer holds up to 60 sheets of paper on the paper tray and 35 on the ADF tray. The control panel is a small LCD screen and several buttons. It only displays several settings like paper count, brightness and other common features. On the screen you also have an ink level indicator as well. I missed out on the free 6 months of free ink. Wish I could contact someone about that. Otherwise they have a reasonable price for refilling the ink. This HP printer and they are reliable. It does the job well, quiet, fast and it’s cost efficient to maintain. It is easy to use and set up. This printer is 60% made of recyclable plastic. It orders inks automatically if you subscribed to the program and you can recycle the used ink cartridges for free. In the box you get the printer, power cord and manuals and two sets of ink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MomTo2NC from Great Upgrade We have had an HP printer of some sort for probably the last two decades. They’re reliable little workhorses that are great for families or at-home work that requires small batch or occasional printing. I love the feed tray on top. It gives big office copier vibes! The scanner works well too. The print quality is great. My only complaint is that wireless printing can be a pain. Even with the HP app, the printer doesn’t always connect with the device I’m trying to print from (and I know it’s not an internet issue). I’m hoping we get it figured out soon, but I’ve usually been able to find a work around to get what I needed printed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jjkook0708 from All in one printing at home The HP DeskJet 4255e All-in-One Printer has been a great addition to my home office. It’s compact and fits nicely on my desk, and it handles printing, scanning, and copying without any issues. Setting it up was simple, especially with the help of the HP Smart app, which guided me through the process. The only downside is that the ink can be expensive, and it’s a bit slow when printing large batches. Overall, though, it’s a solid, affordable option for everyday home use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by J105w from Good for Light Printing Tasks Being in the field of education for longer than I care to admit, I have had plenty of experience dealing with many different types of printers. I bring that knowledge to give an honest review of the HP DeskJet 4255e All-in-One Printer. Setup was simple because it only requires one plug. Downloading the app and having my laptop recognize the device took a while. That being said, once the device is recognized, it is easy to print. When it comes to design, it's a bit tricky to access the internals because there's only a small opening in the front. This could be a problem for people with larger hands, as the front opening is the only way to replace ink cartridges (which you'll need to do often if you print regularly) or deal with paper jams. Plus, the printer needs to be on to access the ink cartridges. There's only a rear paper feeder with a small 60-page capacity, so you'll be adding sheets frequently. And there's no menu on the printer itself; you'll have to use your PC or mobile device for settings and maintenance tasks. The ink cartridges have a low yield and need frequent replacement. Accessing them is a hassle, as you can only reach them through a narrow front door. The same goes for the sheet rollers - you can only access them through the front door, with no other access points on the printer. You'll also be refilling the paper tray often since it only holds 60 sheets. The printer is compatible with the HP Smart app, which lets you order ink, manage your ink subscription, access printables, send mobile faxes (with a paid HP+ subscription), scan documents with your device's camera, initiate scans, and perform maintenance tasks. The ink cartridges are small, so get ready to change them frequently. You get three months of ink included with the printer through HP's subscription service, HP Instant Ink. But once you start using this service, you can't use cartridges from third-party manufacturers. Overall, this printer is fine for light home use. But as an educator, I need something more robust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NiniCakes from The Professional Sidekick You Need! This printer was exactly what I was looking for and will now help increase my productivity not only for the work I do professionally but also the work I do personally as an MA student! It was very easy to set up so if you're not the most tech savvy person, don't worry! The directions are easy to follow and will have you up and running in no time! I love the wifi capability on this printer which allowed me to conveniently print wirelessly through the hp app from my iPhone while I lounged on the couch, saving me a trip to grab my laptop just to print a document. The pages printed pretty quickly and quietly. I was also able to scan some money orders for my mom before she mailed them out so that she'd be able to keep a record of them and photocopied my company credit card so that I can lock the card up and carry the copy in my purse for quick online purchases. All in all I give this printer a 10/10 and think you will also be pleased with the capabilities in this compact device!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sraegold from Easiest installation ever! I actually had to install this printer under duress. My old printer wasn't working anymore and this one came right on time. My bank needed me to sign a document and it was right around closing time. I had to hurry up, open the box and get this printer installed ASAP. I couldn't believe how quick and easy the installation was. It connected to the wifi so easily. It was definitely the best installation experience I've ever had. The print quality is great. It prints so fast, even in color. Two-sided printing was a little trickier and that was disappointing. I would prefer automatic double sided printing but you need to sit by the machine while it prints the first side and then feed the paper back into the printer to print the other side. I wasted a lot of paper not understanding how to do this at first. The 3 months of free ink and paper is a really nice perk and the subscription that lets the printer communicate with HP to send paper and/or ink when it's needed it's also really great. It's cost effective too. I prefer paying a membership for $6/mo instead of having to shell out over $50 when I need ink. Overall a great product and super happy with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by oliviaromano from Great Printer! I have used this printer for a little over a week. I like the compact size of it, it prints in both black and white and color, and it has the ability to copy and scan documents. However, I do not like that I had to download an app on my phone and computer to set up and print documents. Also, it prints fairly slow compared to other printers. However, I do like the size of the printer and the capabilities that a small printer like this can do. Overall, I do recommend this printer to others.

I would recommend this printer to any one with a basic need for a cordless straight forward easy to use printer. With an additional 3 months of ink provided and a secondary subscription I will never have the problem of running out, which is fantastic for any at home small business or college student.

So if you buy this printer and get the free 3 months do you have to sign up for some contract to get ink all the time?

Asked by: Charlie237
Hello, Charlie. Thanks for your question. The HP Instant Ink concept is based on the number of pages you print. Not the ink. When your printer is low on ink, HP will send you ink before you need it at no additional cost. There is no contract. You can change or cancel your plan at any time.
