When it comes to a premium gaming machine, it all starts with cooling, particularly when buying a laptop. There’s nothing worse than spending your hard-earned cash on a sweet rig with top-of-the-line components, only to get hit with frame drops because your internals keep overheating. That’s why we designed the HyperX OMEN 16 from the cooling up, and what we ended up with was our brand-new OMEN Tempest Cooling architecture
OMEN TEMPEST COOLING PRO
The design philosophy is simple: How can we maximize heat dissipation and reduce performance drop-off over time as much as possible, so gamers can maintain peak performance for their entire gaming session, whether that be a 24-hour livestream or a 2-hour session after a long day of school/work
This was largely solved with one thing (in very simplified terms). Space. We started by increasing the fan gap by 1.6mm and the gap between the motherboard and keyboard by another 1.5mm. This allows for air to move more freely through the chassis. We then reduced the distance/space between the components, heat sinks, and thermal vents. This means our unique vapor chamber + heat pipe design doesn’t have to work near as hard to expel all the heat from pushing the device, keeping your keyboard cool and your fans quiet no matter where you’re dropping
OMEN CRYO COMPOUND
Traditional liquid metal formulas are like RNG—when they are working, it’s great. The added heat dissipation keeps the heat from your CPU & GPU from building up, allowing your fans to keep pace. When they fail, however….it is typically in spectacular fashion—leaking out of your components and directly onto your motherboard, causing all kinds of problems and even resulting in system failure
That’s why we developed a new liquid metal hybrid material called OMEN Cryo Compound. We took the traditional gallium, and instead of mixing it with the usual indium, we coated it in silicone. The increased viscosity from the silicone simultaneously provides the same heat dissipation benefits as in-market formulas, but with a much lower chance of leakage, thus greatly improving the longevity of the device

One of the biggest silent killers of any gaming laptop is the slow buildup of dust over time. For the ‘lucky’ ones that are aware of this problem, they are rewarded with constant maintenance sessions to keep the internals dust-free. The rest are left wondering why their laptop is slowly getting hotter and louder with worsening performance over time
