HP-UX Software Releases December 2002

These releases are the latest versions of applications for the 11.0 Operating System and 11.i Operating Environment,
updates the 11.0 Operating System and 11i Operating Environment along with HP-UX Support Plus. You are entitled to receive one of the above mentioned releases if one or more of your products under support contract has been updated. If you wish more information about software updates or support matrices for HP-UX application releases,
please access the following url: http://www.hp.com/softwarereleases/releases-media2/index.html DVD Now Available! HP-UX 11i Version 1 for PA-RISC Servers and workstations is now available on Digital Versatile Disk (DVD). DVD provides
considerable benefits to HP-UX customers by consolidating Operating Environments and HP-UX Applications each onto a single
platter. HP-UX installation is greatly eased and finding the components you're looking for is much simpler. In addition, since the
HP-UX Applications are on a single DVD, one codeword will unlock any combination of them. As an HP-UX support customer you can change over your support distribution over to DVD at contract renewal time. Please contact
your HP support contract administrator if you desire to change over to DVD rather than CD. In addition, starting in December 2002,
HP-UX will also be available on DVD for new purchases. Note that if you desire to continue receiving HP-UX on CD-ROM, you do not need to take any action. If you do not request a
changeover to DVD, you will continue to receive your HP-UX 11i Version 1 updates on CD-ROM as you always have. In addition,
HP-UX 11i Version 1 will continue CD-ROM availability for new purchases. It is your choice whether you desire HP-UX 11i Version
1 on DVD or CD-ROM. Note: HP-UX 11.0 will remain on CD-ROM only, for both support updates and new purchases. Instant Support Enterprise Edition HP announces Instant Support Enterprise Edition, a single remote support solution, extending support beyond HP-UX to MS Windows
and RedHat Linux operating systems - simplifying customers' multi-OS remote support. Using a single unified platform greatly reduces the cost and complexity of IT support for our customers. By providing a single remote
support solution for multiple operating systems, ISEE can help eliminate the need for customers to manage multiple support tools

Automounter

Automounter mounts directories automatically when users or processes request access and it unmounts them automatically
after they have been idle for a period of time (five minutes, by default). In order to assist you with your File System planning,
HP would like to inform you that Automounter for NFS on HP-UX version 2 (11.23) and later releases will not be available.
This notice serves as a reminder that the only releases of HP-UX that will support Automounter are HP-UX 11i (11.11)
PA-RISC and HP-UX 11i 1.6 (11.22) IPF, HP-UX 11.0 and HP-UX 10.20 Discontinuance and Support Automounter will continue to be supported on HP-UX 10.20, 11.0 and 11i versions 1.5 and 1.6. This notification is only intended
to assist you in your future file system planning for future releases of HP-UX. A migration guide will be included in the "Installing and Administering NFS Services" user manual and will be made available in 2003. Replacement Information HP plans to discontinue Automounter on the HP-UX 11i version 2 release. AutoFS will be the replacement product for Automounter.
AutoFS has been in release since HP-UX 10.30 and has coexisted with Automounter, so you may be familiar with AutoFS.
AutoFS performs many of the same functions as Automounter but it has several advantages over Automounter: · AutoFS can be used to mount many types of file systems including NFS Protocol Version 2 and 3, CacheFS, HFS, VxFS, CDFS
and LOFS. (Automounter can only mount NFS Protocol version 2) · With AutoFS, the configured mount points are the actual mount points (Automounter mounts directories under /tmp_mnt and creates
symbolic links from the configured mount points to the mount points /tmp/mnt) · You do not have to stop AutoFS to change your automounter maps. The AutoFS daemon runs continuously. For more information, please contact your HP sales representative.
