Good, Reliable Printer with Some Missing Features
Replaces my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw. Some features I really liked are missing from this printer (e.g., manual feed more than one sheet at a time, scanning app is extremely poor, hard to set printer defaults). But it is reliable and so far works well.

Easy to set up. Connected to my home WiFi quickly and easily. The client software apps (desktop for Mac and iPhone) were pretty easy to find and set up. Prints quickly and crisply. Very happy with this purchase so far!

Great Home Office Printer
This is the perfect printer for my small home office. I am running 2 separate businesses from this space, and the printer, scanner, copier does what I need and was easy to set up and use within minutes. The only issue I had was setting up my icloud email account to the scanner for "scan to email", but quickly searched and found that I could use a gmail address to do this and it worked. Just be sure to google "how" and use the tips and tricks to get it to work with your gmail. There are a few steps that one wouldn't think of.

So Far It's Great
Only had this printer for a few days, but so far it works great. It took me 3 color calibrations to get the color to print right. (Maybe the shipping process disturbed some of the toner internally). But after each calibration there was significant improvement and now it prints beautiful color flawlessly. Hopefully it continues to work this way for years to come :).

Great printer, if you can keep it alive for more than a few years
Now on my 3rd printer of this model. It is excellent for home color laser printing. That being said, I’ve had 2 catastrophic failures which have required me to exchange the printer once and buy a new one altogether. Seems like a suspicious way to get everyone to subscribe to the extended warranty.

This printer drives me crazy
I bought this to replace a Brother printer I had for years. It has many of the same features. This printer does not do automatic duplex copying, like my old one. This is because the scanner only scans one side at a time, making duplex copying so difficult that I end up just copying the back side and doing single to duplex copying, wasting paper. It will not scan to anything but USB. At the printer it just says it has to be set-up on the computer. But the app tells me it is set up on the computer. However, when I try to scan from the app on the computer, it says the printer has to be set up. I also have to sign into my HP account, which I don't get at all. Both are on my network, why does it need the internet to scan to my computer. It loses the WiFi all the time and has to be rebooted to reconnect, no other way of reconnecting works. When printing 40 three-page duplex reports, it will overheat and have to cool down. About the only thing I like better than the Brother is that the printer is smaller. but it's probably small because the paper tray doesn't fit a whole ream. Next time I won't buy a HP.

HP makes great printers with accurate, vivid colors.
We have owned a numbers of HP printers during the lifetime of our business. We started out decades ago with one of the first B/W printers that ran faithfully for years. Each of our employees has a color laser HP. We honestly feel that you can’t beat them. My only complaint with this latest model is that it has a chip so you can’t use any aftermarket toner. Even though we normally purchase the terribly expensive HPToner, it irritates me that I have no other option should I want to use an aftermarket cartridge on an older printer.

Fantastic printer for my home office!
This printer is very quick and efficient for my home office needs. I love that it is a multi-tasker and that (if I wanted to use it), it has wireless capability. It does double-sided printing, too, which is a plus. I only wish that it also had the capability to do 11 x 17 sized scanning and printing. That would definitely kick things up a notch.

Utility and Price meets home printing
Once I had support download the software, this printer is the best printer I've had and I have used printers for more than 30 years. It is fast and smooth. Does envelopes the easiest I have ever done them. Not having to deal with ink cartridges is a real plus. No mess and clogged print heads.

My 1st Color Laser Printer and I absolutely happy choose the right choice.

Durable and well worth the cost
I had an HP printer that lasted thirteen years. And one day I started a copy cycle of 475 pages it said Enough! I promptly emailed HP and asked if they had copiers similar to the one that I had. A very nice and Knowledgeable person gave me options. After considering my need to have a printer that could fit on my desk I purchased the laser jet pro MFP 283fdw. The test is history

Actually purchased.
Have only had this printer a couple of days but already I love it. The setting up was a little dicey and I had to involve HP Support as the drivers would not work, but other than that, it is going to fit my home office needs and I don't have to worry about an ink head drying out and clogging.

Purchased this printer to replace a HP281fdw. The printer works well and very similar in functionality to the 281. I would have given a 5 star rating if the 283 used the same replacement toner cartridges as the 281 as I have multiple ones I previously purchased.

Very good printer for small office
This purchase was a replacement of our previous M283fdw printer. This is really an excellent printer for a small office with several employees using. Our printer is actually shared by 2 small businesses using a shared guest network, which required more set up and installation across numerous devices, and it slows down the functions a bit, but nothing unusual. It's very versatile, plenty fast for our needs, easy scanning, printing and copying. email printing very handy. Quality of printing very good. Just a note of caution, make sure you upload and register the printer onto your main HP account online when setting up, or you will become very frustrated at why it doesn't work when setting up.
This printer has a known issue with its power supply "burning out", and that is exactly what happened with our prior model. It cycles on and off dozens of times a day to save energy, but eventually the unit becomes unusuble with all kinds of issues. With this model we have now plugged it into a power strip and it is turned off every afternoon and weekends to prevent cycling. We also purchased an extended warranty. New unit performs flawlessly across all uses, really a breeze
I am personally a big fan of HPs software and applications, we make ample use of HP Smart apps, mobile faxing, phone scanning to PDFs, etc. It really is remarkably good software. Overall at the time of this writing, couldn't be more satisfied with the printer and a small amount of support we needed setting up.

Joke of a product.
This worked great for 6 months connected to the USB but then is stopped working. HP told me it only works with wifi (it worked fine for 6 months without it) so we set that up and now it still doesn't work and they told me it is incompatible with my Spectrum internet service and it will not work.
I'm just out a printer on this one I guess. To the landfill much earlier than expected along with every single HP product I've bought in my life

Solid home office printer / scanner.
Solid color laser printer / scanner. I don't use the fax capability (what's fax, anyway?). The HP software is sort of stupid, but after a while I can get what I need done. Toner is stupid expensive ... I only buy HP toner and a full set of toner carts for this printer comes to almost twice the price of the printer.

I purchased this printer from HP website. Unfortunately just because you purchase from HP that does not mean your printer is instant ink eligible. Like this one, I can not sign up for instant ink. Do not buy this printer thinking you automatically get into the instant ink program, because you don't! Very disappointed.

Terrible customer service. What has happened to HP?
The laser jet works well so far. My problem is that HP has become such a poor company in terms of customer service. I purchased the laser jet to replace a 9025 printer It broke. Literally. There was a roller rolling around loose in the 9025 and as a result the printer jammed constantly. This was the second 9025 to have this problem within 6 months. Your people couldn’t find the sales receipt (and I do not keep those) so they refused to honor the warranty or to assist me in returning the most recently broken 9025. Terrible experience.

What year is the production of this printer. I have a laserjet which is now 7 years old and according to your service department, my new HP computer does not support my old printer, therefor it no longer will scan. works great otherwise
You may want to look into a free application named NAPS2, Not Another PDF Scanner 2. It may work as long as you can install a TWAIN or WIA driver for the scanner portion of the MFP.

Thank you for your question! The maximum print size on this HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283 is 8.5" by 14". For banner printing please see the HP DesignJet printers. Those printers use roll paper which is great for banners and many other uses as well.

Yes, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw does not come with standard-size cartridges. The standard-size cartridges will have more page yields. Also, toner is used in the initial setup that isn't used at any other time.
