THROTTLE LESS, CARRY MORE
Cooling is the foundation of any premium gaming laptop. Thermal throttling — frame drops caused by overheating components — is among the most common performance complaints on high-end machines. The HP OMEN MAX 16 addresses this from the ground up with a new OMEN Tempest Cooling PRO architecture, engineered specifically to maximize heat dissipation and minimize performance degradation over the course of an entire gaming session.
OMEN TEMPEST COOLING PRO
The design philosophy is simple: How can we maximize heat dissipation and reduce performance drop-off over time as much as possible, so gamers can maintain peak performance for their entire gaming session, whether that be a 24-hour livestream or a 2-hour session after a long day of school/work
The core solution centers on space and airflow. HP engineers increased the fan gap by 1.6 mm and the gap between the motherboard and keyboard by an additional 1.5 mm, allowing air to move more freely through the chassis. At the same time, the distance between components, heat sinks, and thermal vents was reduced, so the vapor chamber and heat pipe design expels heat more efficiently — keeping the keyboard surface cool and fan noise low even under sustained GPU and CPU load.
OMEN CRYO COMPOUND
Traditional liquid metal thermal interface materials — typically gallium-indium alloys — offer strong heat dissipation but carry a well-documented risk: leakage onto the motherboard, which can cause electrical shorts and system failure. This unpredictability makes them a liability in long-term consumer devices.
To solve this, HP developed OMEN Cryo Compound, a proprietary liquid metal hybrid material. The formula retains gallium as its base but replaces indium with a silicone coating. The silicone increases viscosity, dramatically lowering the likelihood of leakage while preserving the same level of heat dissipation found in conventional liquid metal compounds. The result is a thermal interface material that delivers high-performance cooling with improved long-term reliability.
FAN CLEANER (POWERED BY INTEL®)
Dust accumulation inside a gaming laptop's fan assembly is one of the most common — and most overlooked — causes of gradual performance loss. Over time, dust buildup restricts airflow, raises internal temperatures, increases fan noise, and causes the system to throttle CPU and GPU output. Most users are unaware of the issue until performance has already degraded significantly.
HP partnered with Intel® to address this with Fan Cleaner, the first in-market self-cleaning fan technology of its kind. Fan Cleaner automatically reverses fan direction between gaming sessions — never during active gameplay — to expel accumulated dust from the chassis. Users can also open OMEN Gaming Hub (OGH) to manually trigger a cleaning cycle or customize the automated cleaning schedule.

With OMEN Tempest Cooling PRO sustaining stable thermals, the OMEN MAX 16 is equipped with top-tier components across every category. The GPU is the NVIDIA® RTX™ 5090 Laptop GPU — based on the Blackwell architecture — which delivers up to twice the performance of the RTX 4090 in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong when using DLSS 4. The CPU is the Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 275HX, a 24-core, 24-thread desktop-class processor. Memory tops out at 64 GB of DDR5 RAM across two upgradeable slots, and storage options include up to a 2 TB PCIe® Gen4 NVMe™ M.2 SSD or up to a 1 TB PCIe® Gen5 NVMe™ M.2 SSD.

GAME CHANGER
The NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 50 Series Laptop GPUs are built on the new Blackwell architecture, which introduces a substantial increase in AI processing capability. The RTX 50 Series supports DLSS 4 multi-frame generation, NVIDIA Reflex 2 latency reduction, and NVIDIA Max-Q power efficiency technology — together enabling higher frame rates, lower system latency, and improved battery efficiency compared to the previous Ada Lovelace generation.
DLSS 4
DLSS 4 (Deep Learning Super Sampling 4) uses AI to increase performance and improve image quality across supported titles. Its new multi-frame generation model is 40% faster and uses 30% less VRAM than its predecessor. Unlike DLSS 3, which required a separate inference pass for each generated frame, DLSS 4 can generate multiple frames from a single pass. This is enabled by the 5th-generation Tensor Cores in RTX 50 Series GPUs, which deliver 2.5x more AI processing throughput compared to the previous generation.
New RTX™ Technologies
RTX Neural Shaders introduce AI-driven texture compression, reducing texture size by up to 7x. This lowers the memory and bandwidth demand on the GPU while simultaneously enabling cinematic-quality textures and advanced real-time lighting — effects that would otherwise require significantly more GPU resources.
NVIDIA REFLEX 2
NVIDIA Reflex optimizes the graphics pipeline to minimize system latency, improving target acquisition speed, reaction time, and aim precision in competitive multiplayer games. Reflex 2 introduces Frame Warp, a new technique that adjusts the rendered frame based on the most recent mouse input just before display — further reducing perceived latency beyond what Reflex 1 achieved.
