The Best Borderlands 3 ShiFT Codes: Think Fast!
Borderlands 3 ShiFT codes are part coupon, part stopwatch, and part Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket. They make it easier to progress while playing Borderlands 3, the loot-and-shoot, first-person action-adventure roleplaying game (RPG) from Gearbox Software. But only if you move quickly when you get them since many have expiration dates.
If you’re looking for more loot, gear, and high-end weapons for Borderlands 3, then read on to discover the best Borderlands 3 ShiFT codes.
The world of Borderlands 3
Welcome to the world of Borderlands 3, specifically to Planet Pandora, a deadly outback full of danger and risk. But with that risk comes the possibility of great reward. Ancient vaults riddle the planet, brimming with loot-able tech and treasure from the long-vanished and impossibly advanced civilization of the Eridians.
As a player, you take on the role of a Vault-Hunter, choosing a character class that fits your play-style:
- Amara, the phase-powered, elemental energy wielding Siren
- FL4K, the oversized robot Beastmaster who can summon powerful creatures to aid him in battle
- Moze, the gunner whose close combat firepower is rivaled only by her explosive, high-powered battle robot mech Iron Beas
- Zane, the silent sniper-assassin operative
Serious missions with some less-than-serious characters, fun and imaginative (but deadly) await, as well as a larger plot that unfolds as you advance through the game. Procedurally generated loot and weapons offer each player an endless series of customizations in firepower.
What are SHiFT codes and Golden Keys?
ShiFT codes for Borderlands 3 are promotional codes that fans can redeem for in-game rewards. The codes are an out-of-game “secret reward” opportunity. These 25-character codes can be obtained from websites and places on the internet then entered into the game to gain access to rare items or upgraded gear.
Many of the most tantalizing are timed affairs. They will work only for so long, and are often tied to some sort of promotion or holiday, or are simply limited-time, high-reward prizes. These are essentially “you snooze; you lose” prizes.
Similar to another game’s loot box system (except that they are free), ShiFT codes grant the bearer “Golden Keys.” These Borderlands 3 Golden Keys are used to unlock special “Golden Chests” aboard the spaceship within the game that cannot be accessed in any other way, rewarding players with high-value, legendary weapons and other exclusive items.
Other ShiFT codes unlock what are called “cosmetics,” or different character outfits or weapon skins; color schemes, masks and outfits, or other items that affect how your character looks on screen. Cosmetics offer no game-play advantage other than the coolness factor and fun of changing outfits.
But some ShiFT codes are long-lasting or permanent. These act a little like reliable “cheat codes” from days gone by.
Permanent ShiFT keys
These permanent ShiFT codes will not expire. However, keep in mind that they are single-use only, so once you use them for Gold Keys, they’re gone.
- ZFKJ3-TT3BB-JTBJT-T3JJT-JWX9H - 3 Golden Keys
- HXKBT-XJ6FR-WBRKJ-J3TTB-RSBHR - 1 Golden Key
- ZFKJ3-TT6FF-KTFKT-T3JJT-JWX36 - 1 Golden Key
- 9XCBT-WBXFR-5TRWJ-JJJ33-TX53Z - 1 Golden Key
- ZRWBJ-ST6XR-CBFKT-JT3J3-FRXJ5 - 1 Golden Key
- Z65B3-JCXX6-5JXW3-3B33J-9SWT6 - 1 Golden Key
Places to get limited-time ShiFT codes
If you’re looking for brand-new ShiFT codes, then there are several ways to get them. These newer codes do expire, though, within days or even hours, so check back periodically to ensure that you have the latest and greatest.
Sign up here to receive ShiFT codes through Gearbox Software’s official “ShiFT” site. To sign up for ShiFT codes, you need to be 18 years or older as well as have a working internet connection. You’ll also need an active Steam account for playing on the PC, or Xbox Live Gold membership, or PlayStation Network account.
You can also get them from time to time while playing the games: Borderlands 3, Borderlands 2, or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. While in-game, select “Extras” from the main menu, then from the “My Offers” screen, select “ShiFT Code.” At that point, you’ll enter the appropriate 25-digit ShiFT code and hit submit.
Social media-issued codes
Most of the ShiFT codes issued on social media will expire within a few hours of going live. They are meant to be like the brass rings of the old carousels. If you miss a chance at grabbing them, then you have missed your chance.
Gearbox honcho Randy Pitchford will issue ShiFT codes from his Twitter account (@DuvalMagic). Following that account and setting an "Alert" when new tweets go live is the surest way to never miss out on free loot in Borderlands 3.
You may also follow the bot @dgShiFTCodes, which is set up to retweet all new ShiFT codes as they are issued, and only ShiFT codes. Pitchford’s Twitter may have other content and announcements, but the @dgShiFTCodes account is all codes, all the time, and nothing but codes.
Redeeming ShiFT codes in Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 ShiFT codes can be redeemed at the Gearbox Software official website. This requires you to create a free account, link it to your game, and then use the “Rewards” tab for redeeming codes in your ShiFT account.
- If you’re already in the game, press ESCAPE to bring up the main menu
- Choose “Social” and navigate to the ShiFT menu tab
- If you have not linked your account yet you’ll be prompted to do so now
- Input the code by hand
- Continue to the “Redeem” button
- Go to the “Mail” tab
- Click the new message that will be waiting for you there
- Open that message
- Claim the ShiFT reward
What are Borderlands 3 VIP codes?
You may have heard of Borderlands 3 VIP codes and assume that they are the same thing as ShiFT codes. They are, in fact, different. Borderlands 3 (Vault Insider Program) VIP codes are codes that give you VIP points to redeem with in-game rewards within all of the Borderlands games, including Borderlands 3, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. As of May 18, 2020, the program awarding these points is discontinued.
Part of the fun of playing a game like Borderlands 3 is being able to level up and progress further by adding to your stockpile of gear, loot, and weapons. ShiFT codes help you do just that. And since they’re not exactly easy to find or, more accurately, they make you work a bit to actually get them, the reward is that much sweeter.
