Does not work with shopping network HP laptops
If you purchase an HP laptop over TV shopping networks, the likelihood of this device working with your laptop is NOT!. I could not find documentation on the HP website on what docking station to connect my HP laptop. I read horror stories of folks trying to return this.

Works great
The dock works great. I love the fact that it also charges the laptop, so there's only one cord to plug in or remove. And the power button on the top of the dock turns the laptop on, which is very convenient. The size and shape can be awkward if space it tight.

Poor customer service
Poor customer service. I bought this product then realized it was not needed with the HP laptop I purchased. Tried several times to return it and they never offered that as an option. I was prepared to pay a restocking fee but now they kept the entire $250 and didn't even respond to my refund request. I would not recommend purchasing from HP!

Dock is useless
I would not recommend this product to anyone. My Dock is useless, with only the ability to supply power to the note book. None of the USB or HDMI ports function, I opened HP Case Number: 5147997772 on 8/29/25 yet no response absolutely zero help from the validation team so I'm stuck with a very expensive brick. Don't waste your time or money

Excellent hub + power for HP laptops
I read a lot of reviews on the hub not supporting HDMI well. I went ahead and bought it and connected my external 24" LG monitor, 2 network cables (one via a USB-C adapter), external HDD, mouse. Have been using it for over a month and it works perfectly for all devices. Really nice that all of these devices + power are all supplied via the single USB-C to my HP laptop. Maybe once a week or so the external HDMI monitor disconnects for 1-2 seconds then comes back without issues. I wouldn't call that a problem. Highly recommend getting this to eliminate the cable clutter to a laptop. Makes it really simple to disconnect everything for when I need to take my laptop with me.

It is a piece of garbage. I have downloaded every patch and it still is not working right. Seems if I buy a laptop and a dock from HP they could make sure everything works right. Cannot even use the thing.

Dead Ports
Not all ports worked... The HDMI port and the power port would not work out of the box. If I plugged my 2nd monitor directly into the laptop's HDMI, the monitor it worked perfectly. However, when I plugged the 2nd monitor into the dock's HDMI port, it did not work at all. Nor would the dock actually charge my laptop. I finally got in touch with a live person, and they would not even talk to me about the actual DOCK problems, because the HP laptop I use has had extra RAM installed. I simply asked for a refund at that point...

The nonfuntional docking station !
Not the universal copck station we had hoped for. Wiht the Laptop we receved the Dock will not connect to the 2nd monitor, the printer or provide power to the laptop. This make it about the same as pluging the devices directly into the Laptop directly which is not helpfull at all.

Compatible with Pavilion 16 and charges laptop
I left a review on a HP Thunderbolt 120W Dock G4 saying is was compatible with my Pavilion 16 which was wrong. I returned that for the USB-C Dock G5 which is actually the dock I ended up buying because it is truly compatible with the Pavilion 16. Charges the laptop, has all the ports I need to keep a clean desktop and connect to the Samsung TV I use for a monitor. It may be more expensive than other docking stations but they wouldn't do everything I needed. The only thing I that's comparable is the similar IBM ThinkPad dock which is around the same price.

The rare HP Hardware Nightmare
We’ve used multiple HP USB-C docks with no issues, but the G5 is unfortunately a serious outlier. We purchased nine of them, and nearly all had significant problems—primarily only delivering power but not handling data or video. Yes, just power. Imagine plugging in a dock and watching your monitor stay blank like it's silently judging you.
I want to be clear: we’re long-time HP users. We like HP. We plan to continue purchasing HP laptops, docks, and monitors well into the future. But this model genuinely tested our patience—and our IT department’s will to live.
After digging through forums we finally found a Reddit post that offered a workaround. That fixed the worst of it, but a product like this shouldn’t require sleuthing on social media just to function properly.
Here’s hoping HP addresses this with better firmware, or at the very least, a disclaimer that reads: “Works best after community-sourced black magic

HP G5 USB-C Dock - works as I hoped!
I purchased an ENVY 2 in 1 tablet and needed a high speed hub to quickly connect to my high speed home network and multiple monitors for my work and hobbies. And this gives me the access and quick hook-up I need to go from portable to home PC mode.
I also love the built-in Bluetooth to keep my wireless keyboard, mouse and headphones connected. Finally it has enough USB ports to connect flight and game controllers. It provides good low latency connection for all my devices.

Difficult to get working if intend is to only use external monitors and laptop lid closed.
Dock is okay but getting external monitors configured took me over 1 hour. Connected dock to laptop then monitors to dock and everything works. On reboot everything was blank. My intend was to only use 2 external monitors with lid closed. It finally worked after using hdmi for primary monitor and dp for secondary monitor, closing lid and rebooting. Using this with HP omen gaming laptop.
Also, not sure if this is laptop or dock problem, but with laptop lid closed, the dock cannot capture boot screen messages. For example if you enter bios setup, must open lid and use laptop display.

Sure wish the HDMI port worked
New as delivered HDMI port didn’t work but display port connection did so set it up that way. Used known good HDMI cables and display that worked side by side with old HP system but wouldn’t work either the new dock. Since I had display port cable I just used that as it worked and I didn’t want to wait on a new dock or go through the hassle of warranty exchange.
Would of rated it 5 stars if HDMI port would have worked.

It's fine but glitchy.
These don't seem to be very stable. I have them in my office and my third monitor has never worked properly with it. I've had others that just fail to connect to a laptop until we've rebooted the laptop 3+ times. The 1 year warranty is pretty limiting when you have issues like this.

Great docking station, all the features I need and works flawlessly so far.
I replaced a desktop PC that I built in 2010 because it would not support Windows 11. I went with a laptop to have with me when I travel and wanted to continue using my dual displays and wired network connection and sound system in my home office. This was very easy to install, update and configure and has all the features I needed.

G5 dock came on time. It works perfectly with another Thunderbolt device and all the peripherals (e.g., mouse, keyboard, etc.) The HDMI connection works great because the prior brand docking was not rendering the accurate color saturation. Overall, we are super happy with the purchase.

My HP USB-C Dock G5 is the Best!
This little beauty does everything I want it to in a compact package. I can pull in my beloved MS Natural keyboard, my ancient Deskjet 932c printer, my external hard drive and my external monitor, and everything works well together to give me a real personal computer experience. As my needs change I can add other external devices like a DVD drive.

I really like everything about this dock. The design, build quality and ports. I just wish it had and on/off switch so I didn't have to unplug the USB C cable from my laptop every day after work. It's just unnecessary wear and tear on my laptops USB C port.
