Just what I needed.
Excellent quality - as always with HP. Compared to my sheet feed scanners that do not have flatbed capability, the initial warm-up period is slightly longer, however, the quality of results is fantastic.A bonus feature is the ability to scan photos with different orientations and rotate them as desired without having to reset the scanner settings.

Well thought out design
Upgraded from an 7+ year old HP scanner and am completely wowed by this scanner. The speed is great which is further supported by dual side scanning (way less jamming with single pass). Streamlining of the software interactive process saves a lot of time too where you can use full prompting or tell the scanner to just do it and auto send to a location. Prompts for more pages for flatbed is helpful. ADF feeder is designed to reduced misfeeds (really only had 1 or 2 out of 1000 pages). Compared to the older scanner these are absolute compliments as to the thought put into this model. Bravo!

1. What are the specific deminsions of the flat plate scanner surface. 2. Will the flat plate scanner surface scan a 11x14 legal document completely? Thank you.
Thanks for your question. The HP ScanJet Pro N4600 fnw1 will support up to 8.5 x 211 in. The scanner would support an 8.5x14 legal-size document. 11x14 would not fit.

Can this unit scan to printer? If so, how?
Hello, Marisa. Thanks for your question. While the HP ScanJet Pro N4600 fnw1 is a powerful scanner for documents and photos, it cannot directly make copies like a photocopier. You can scan your items, save them as PDFs, and then print them using a separate printer.

What is the background color on this machine? in other words, if I set the scanner to scan a letter sized document, but insert a 5" x 7" document will I get black/gray edges or will they be white edges? I am referring to the ADF and not the flatbed.
