Calling all Aspiring Innovators: HP and MIT Solve to Award "Create What's Next" Grants to Youth Developing Breakthrough Solutions for Climate Action
Second annual youth challenge will award up to $100,000 prize to fund sustainability-based solutions that address climate change and its impacts; Submission period now open through January 24, 2023
November 21, 2022
In support of MIT Solve’s second annual Solv[ED] Youth Innovation Challenge, HP has dedicated a $100,000 prize pool to fund youth-led solutions that address sustainability challenges, particularly related to the reduction, reuse and recycling of plastics and packaging. As a company committed to youth-led innovation and climate action, HP is proud to support the next generation of sustainability innovators.
The challenge is open to anyone, around the world. Deadline to submit proposals is January 24, 2023 and 10 selected Solv[ED] Innovators will be announced at Solve at MIT in May 2023 in Cambridge, MA.
One thoughtful idea has the power to change the world
At the heart of our brand is the belief that companies must contribute to the good of society. Along with MIT Solve, we want to usher in a new era of progress – but can’t do it without the help from the next generation of global changemakers and community leaders.
"Companies like ours have a critical role to play in helping solve today’s challenges. Of all the pressing issues facing the world, preserving our planet for future generations is crucial,” said Guillaume Gerardin, general manager and global head of print supplies at HP. “With the ‘Create What’s Next Prize’, we’re thrilled to tap into the creativity of today’s youth to ignite and inspire innovation and collective actions.”
HP is supporting MIT Solve and the next generation of climate innovators for the second year in a row. Last year’s winner, Elizabeth Nyamwange, leveraged her prize winnings to help realize her solution in the 2022 Girls Save the World program. The prize enabled Elizabeth to further develop her winning project, Etana, a low-cost, solar-powered fingerprint scanner designed to give women in developing countries a form of digital proof of identity without access to the internet or electricity.
“It’s essential that we build innovations to solve complex challenges like climate change or inequality, so I’m grateful for the support of organizations like HP and MIT that recognize the imperative of backing young people and their ideas,” said Elizabeth Nyamwange, inaugural winner of the MIT Solv[ED] challenge.
