Replaced my old HP 1050
Bought this to replace an old HP Gaming laptop running a 1050 NVIDEA GPU. Games I could no longer play like No Mans Sky and Red Dead Redemption run great on it!

New Purchase
We love the computer. It boots up rocket fast. I have used it on battery for as much as 8 hours before needing to charge. I am still getting used to the feel of this laptop vs. my old one. So far it has lived up to the hype.

Laptop and HP Support Review
I purchased this HP laptop directly from HP, and unfortunately I experienced a serious issue very early on. During the third week of use, the USB port adapter failed, making it impossible for me to properly use the laptop.
I contacted HP support and had a very frustrating experience. My call was transferred three times and disconnected twice before I was finally connected with a technician. When I did reach the HP tech, he spent over one hour trying to resolve the problem. Despite his effort, the issue could not be fixed.
I was then told that I would need to return the laptop for repair, which is expected to take 8–10 business days. During this time, I will not have access to my laptop and will be unable to complete my online school training, which is a serious inconvenience.
While the technician was professional, the overall experience has been disappointing—especially considering how new the laptop is and how long the support process took without a resolution. I expected better product reliability and a smoother support experience from HP.

Great Product After A Rocky Start
I customized this 17-inch HP Omen to ensure I got the hardware and performance I wanted, and it was delivered ahead of schedule. My laptop has the AMD Ryzen AI 9 chipset with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics, 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The laptop has a 6-cell 83 Wh lithium-ion battery and an RGB backlit keyboard.
Unfortunately, the operating system crashed during the initial setup. Since it had not been registered HP, none of the HP support systems recognized the machine’s serial number and could not provide support. Even though I had purchased an HP Care Pack, I had to pay an outside vendor to help me get it up and running. Reloading the operating system and updating all of the drivers fixed the issue.
Despite the software glitch and lackluster automated support from HP, once I got it up and running, it has been an outstanding value. The performance and graphics are great and I am glad to have the number pad back (my previous 16-inch Omen laptop had omitted it). It boots up quickly and the battery lasts longer than my previous laptop. I was pleasantly surprised that even though it is a big laptop, it does not feel any heavier than my 16-inch laptop.
Overall, I would highly recommend this product. I have been an HP customer for years and next to my Omen desktop, this laptop has great performance. I would have given it five stars if not for the startup and support issues.

Great Gaming Laptop 10/10 would buy again!
This 17" laptop is affordable yet powerful. I've always been an Alienware and Lenovo fan, but I actually like HP's gaming laptop line for the first time. The battery life is decent for a gaming laptop, and the full-size keyboard is a plus. I would definitely recommend this to fellow gamers. It is a bit heavy though.

Solid Laptop with One Caveat
I customized an OMEN 17" laptop with a Ryzen 9 AI processor, RTX 5070 GPU, 32 GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD specifically to run MSFS 2024. Overall, I'm very pleased with the build quality and how well it handles Flight Simulator for my needs. I would have given it five stars had I known that the RTX 5070 is not quite able to handle MSFS 2024 on ultra graphics settings at 1440p well. It provides playable performance at medium or lower settings. This isn’t a fault of HP, but I mention it to inform serious gamers of the limitation. This is my 4th HP laptop and I have always appreciated HP support on the rare occasions I have needed it.

This Laptop Doesn't Perform as Expected!
My previous laptop was a HP Envy 17" touch screen with DVD/CD player. I bought in in 2017 and was a really nice and well working computer until it wasn't. I purchased several other 17" models since this size works for me. One was a Acer and two were HP's All were supposed to be gamer quality by design. Albeit they didn't work for me for various reasons but this review is about the Omen 17.3 Inch Laptop.
First off I'm not a gamer but I like a faster processing speed for these types of laptops and thus the reason for the various purchases that I have made. I also use my laptop for extending videos to watch on my big screen TV so the screen image is important to me. I can't say that I am happy with my purchase but will say that I have settled with it, when compared to others that I have owned in the past. It boasts a 17.3" QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS display with refresh rates up to 240 Hz and a 3ms response time is available. My experience when using it to watch videos through the Miracast or the wireless display using the 240 Hz on my LG TV SJ8500 is less than adequate. My TV has 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate and with TruMotion 240Hz. When using the Omen built-in wireless display and only 9 feet away, I experience a lot of delay and frequent pixelation when connected to my TV. My best option is to use my 8K HDMI cable but even then the picture viewed is not stellar as I hoped for when I purchased this laptop.
Let's talk about the sound coming out of this laptop. It's Terrible!! Using headphones there is no issue but the speakers can hardly be heard on most videos at full blast if you want to call it that. The design has the speakers pointed at your lap and gets quite muffled due to that design. My HP Envy had great speakers that were focused to be directed at you from the top of the laptop. I will go out on a limb and say that is by design for gamers since they use headphones all the time. That still doesn't help others such as myself.
The laptop's port selection includes USB Type-A, USB Type-C®, HDMI-out, a headphone/microphone combo, and RJ-45. If I had the choice I would prefer more additional USB ports to be on the side versus most in the back. I would also like to have the RJ-45 in the back instead the on the left side where it can be damaged. I don't use the wireless connection like most others do so the RJ-45 is an important feature for me. Another pet peeve of mine is the black color of the laptop. Being named Omen the color is fitting..LOL.. That said, when trying to put anything into a connection port in a dull lighted area it's almost impossible for me. I have to use a handy little flashlight to plug anything in. This is my first black laptop and it will be my last.
Let's talk about other features that I don't like with Windows 11 when using this computer. I do like the convivence of using the Windows Hello feature for logging into the computer and various websites. However this feature only works half the time even after resetting it a couple times for better recognition. Another issue is that after an Windows update (mostly) this laptop loses it's internet connection and needs an additional reboot to get the intranet adapters to work again as they should. It happens off and on even without a new update so I'm not sure where the blame lies for that issue. I did experience the same problem with my old HP Envy laptop so most likely this is a Windows OS issue that needs to be fixed. That said, maybe a driver issue causes this ???
The processor of this laptop is supposedly rated for speeds that can reach up to a 5.2 GHz. The AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 w/ Radeon 860M built into the laptop only shows 2.00 GHz being used. My older laptop ran at 2.9 GHz but got bogged down through the years. This laptop is brand new and seems to be working fairly well for the meantime. There have been times where it gets stuck or frozen but I can't say if that's a program, website or software issue. Only time will tell how it will perform from here. One more thing that I don't like about the keyboard. I subconsciously keep hitting the "K or k" key when I need the "H of h" key. They look very similar on this keyboard when not paying attention. That's my bad... :)
Would I recommend this to others? I'm not sure! If you have similar reasons or habits like mine, then the answer is NO. If you are a gamer then maybe. I don't do games so I'm not one to comment even though there are plenty of gaming apps that come with the laptop. The choice is yours!
HP if you read this and want to send me a replacement - I won't say no!!

Pleasant Surprise
So far my HP Omen 17 has been a pleasant surprise, i purchased this because it had the CPU & GPU combo i was looking for, at a great price as it was on sale. The only reason i gave 4 stars is the keyboard, it could be improved a little, other than that very happy with its performance so far.

Great PC for business and gaming alike!
I managed to snag this on sale and I have had no regrets. I had purchased a different laptop at first, but it didn't have the tenkey. I was able to return the other without issue and without a restocking fee since I was getting another laptop. One that cost a little more, sure, but the tenkey and the better overall specs made process worth it. It doesn't have the Ryzen 7 7800 X3D, but most games don't even need that unless you're pushing for the highest FPS possible. Games like Fortnight or other first person shooters need that, but what I have will do just fine. Needing it for a mulitude of reasons other than gaming made the decision even easier. It does have the RTX 4070 laptop version (NOT the same as the 4070 desktop version, which is more powerful- but I won't get on that soap box.)
HP Support and Sales were both kind and gracious, which is a far cry from the horrific experience I had with Dell. I'm glad I gave HP a second chance after avoiding them for a decade. My only regret is not having gone to them first instead of wasting my time with two other companies.
My only gripe isn't really a complaint. I wish this laptop had been available in different colors. I had hoped for white so it could match the Hyte Y70 case of the desktop I built. But I digress. As Henry Ford once famously said: You can get it in any color you like as long as it's black."

I'm happy that I bought it, and not something else.
I bought this HP Omen 17.3 to replace my ten year old Gateway 17.3, that was still running Windows 7 xp, and having some issues. I decided on this one because I wanted American made and after some research, this one had the best bang for the buck that I could find. I 'm not a big time online gamer, nor am I a pro computer gamer, but am a big time console gamer, having thousands of hours on different platforms going back decades from Atari and Nintendo to Playstation 2 to XBox 360. I'm no expert on gaming laptops, so keep this in mind as you read this. I am probably like many other users, doing limited social networking and media consumption online, and through the years, I have used my laptops for some limited gaming. This purchase was to upgrade my setup to be better at both, and that's exactly what I have got with this beautiful machine. My machine has the Windows 11 Home, AMD Ryzen™ 7 processor, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Laptop GPU (8 GB GDDR6 dedicated)16 GB memory; 1 TB SSD storage17.3" diagonal QHD display as standard equipment, that I immediately upgraded with two 16 GB memory sticks from Crucial that I replaced the minute that I opened the box, giving it 32 GB total ram. This was really the only thing that this unit really needed, as far as I knew, to make it work much better for most everything. I'm really happy with this laptop, as it has exceeded my expectations in every way, but the bloatware in Windows 11 home is horrible, and is causing ongoing issues. The worst of it is in the Gaming hubs where advertising popups abuse you and run constantly changing images of thousands of games that they think you want to buy. This causes my beautiful new laptop to constantly lockup and crash so that I have to restart way too much for my liking. This problem will be solved when I finish debloating my unit and uninstalling the culprit software in Windows 11 Home. Anyway, when I'm doing high action fps gaming, the fans are really very quiet, but the keyboard can get pretty warm in the top center area. I have it on a KLIM Wind cooling pad, which must be helping some, but the cpu and gpu temps look just fine even after a couple hours of somewhat intense gaming. I know this because in the Omen Gaming Hub feature, there's a convenient little widget that allows you to display you machine's real time stats on screen, so you can see exactly what's happening inside. I keep it up there all the time so I can see this important information to keep tabs on my investment. The AMD Ryzen and NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Laptop GPU is incredible with super clear graphics that don't ghost or lag and the detail is amazing. I'm using Fallout 4 to learn how to use the keyboard when gaming, and love to run the clicker for hours on Torchlight, but there's definitely a learning curve when keyboard gaming. So this is what I'm basing my observations on so far, with this laptop. Video streaming and network surfing is perfect, and creating memes in Adobe works great, but definitely makes this machine run hard, which surprised me a little bit, but makes sense I suppose. So aside from the bloat in Windows 11, and the issues it's causing, I'm really happy with my purchase. This unit really has everything for my level and type of uses, and then some, which is exactly what I was looking for when I decided to purchase it. I'm very much aware that it will take some time for me to get this setup to where I'm 100% happy, since I'm no IT guy, it's probably going to take a bit longer to get the buggy stuff out. So all in all, I'm glad I went with this model, and not something else. It's a really nice laptop that feels well built with a sturdy chassis, and a good feeling keyboard, along with the great operating technology inside.

Good for Gaming but useless for business
I bought this computer to be the main computer for my consulting business, which involves a lot of communication. However when Office 2019 was installed, the computer which has an AMD chipset, would not allow Outlook to save copies of sent emails. After using consultants to try and fix the problem, I finally concluded that Office was designed for Intel chipsets and although it would pretend to run Office, the AMD chipset would not allow all the detailed functions of Outlook to work. I eventually returned the product (which involved paying a 15% restocking fee- disgusting since it was a design problem, not a manufacturing problem.) I replaced it with another HP laptop with essentially the same specifications but using an Intel chipset and it has worked flawlessly ever since I took it out of the box.. I still have not received a refund for the junk Omen product..

Good machine, but not for me
This is a well made laptop but it lacks three features I want in a laptop: an IR webcam, which is required to login to Windows with facial recognition; a backlit keyboard, to avoid having the printed-on letters rub off after a few years; and a built-in DVD player, which HP has dropped from its product line.

Awesome
Awesome laptop. Needs 32 for memory to be perfect because it takes a little longer for loading without it. Need easir way to reach casting and wifi buttons but that is a windows thing, not HP. Work flawlessly, no hiccups, stsys pretty cool (improved ventilation), comfortable to use and plenty of storage.
