Yes, it costs a lot more
However, have you ever tried the copy or a refilling unit and then had to go back and buy the original so your printer will work.
If so, you not only paid a lot more, but you wasted a lot of time before you figured out that paying a lot more means you printer works.

Just buy a laser jet (HP)
Well my HP laser Jet is the best printer I have ever bought. I came with 4 large cartridges which bought alone is about what I payed for the printer about 4 years ago. I don’t do any photo prints or anything like that but at least this machine can handle a lot of that kind of printing. No matter what printer laser or ink they are going to use a lot of ink. Just pay more for the Laser Jet (HP) enjoy the great life of the cartridges and pay later for ink when you need it!, don’t waste your money on a inkjet

Prices for ink are nuts!!
Laser printers are better then ink jets. But the prices of replacing ink for any printer are crazy! I can buy a new printer cheaper then one replacement ink cartridge. This country needs to stop throwing everything away and save our land fills.

Toner Cartridge works great, but ...
Toner Cartridge works great. My only regret is the vast number of different cartridges with similar sizes, shapes and identifiers makes it error prone to select the correct cartridge. I don't mind the price except when you buy the wrong one and you don't realize it until it does not quite fit in the printer. At that point, it is not refundable.

This was a fiasco. Ordered the correct toner, during order, number was incorrect. Sent the wrong one. Had to FedEx back before I could receive the proper one. Still waiting a week for the new one.

Gave installation errors (solved by updating printer)
I had difficulties installing this into my HP Color LaserJet MFP M180nw. When I replaced my old cartridge with this one, my printer refused to print and kept giving an error about the cartridge not being a genuine HP product (even though it clearly was). It was difficult to resolve this error because all the support pages just told me to install a genuine product, rather than telling me what to do if it WAS a genuine product already. I did end up fixing the issue by updating the printer and reinstalling the new cartridge -- but it took a lot of troubleshooting to get there!

Corporate policy
Toner cartridges are overpriced. It is ridiculous that HP disables the printer because non-HP printers are installed. HP has over-reached into customers’ domain with it corporate doctrine of “security chip” in cartridges. I will never buy another HP product.

I had ink jet printers for years and switched to a LaserJet a couple of years ago...will NEVER go back to ink jet. The toner doesn't dry up like ink does so I spend less overall. The toners feel really expensive but last so much longer!
