HP’s Advertising

Advertising allows HP to provide information about our products and services for your benefit. We aim to do this while respecting your privacy. As described in our How We Use Data section (MARKETING AND ADVERTISING) of our Privacy Statement, we will process your personal data for marketing purposes to create, select (including measuring and improving our ad tools), and deliver certain personalized ads to you. We present ads on and off HP that are relevant to your interests, based on certain data we collect, observe, and infer about you from the use of our products and services. Our on-property channels include HP websites, toast notifications on HP PCs, emails from HP, and in-app offers. Our off-property channels include third party digital properties such as open web, retail media, social media, and search engines.

We collect and use first-party data to promote personalized offers for partners on our owned properties and on third party properties (e.g., NY Times, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, TikTok). We also collect and use third-party data to better target audiences on and off HP (including measuring and improving our ad tools). We also use information that advertising partners, providers, or marketing networks provide us with about your activity on and off HP and compare it with data that we have about you. If we are able to find a “match”, and if we have obtained your consent, we will use that match to personalize ads that we show you on HP products and services, websites, apps and devices that use our advertising services. We may also associate information about you with interest segments or profiles as part of the provision of ads services to our partners. The types of data they provide include demographic data, purchase intent, and interests.

We may share data we collect with some partners, so that the ads you see in our products and their products are more relevant and valuable to you. We also allow other third-party ad companies to display advertisements on our sites. Personal data involves hashed email ID for purposes of ad targeting and data ingestion, and aggregated data we created for our partners on the performance and effectiveness of their ads on our properties.

HP works with partners, such as The Trade Desk, to enable targeted advertising and measurement on third-party platforms by converting hashed email addresses into UID2 advertising identifiers. Similar to other identifiers, this identifier helps HP deliver more relevant ads to you and evaluate the effectiveness of online advertising and generate audience insights. If you wish to opt out of UID2, refer to their Privacy Policy below or visit transparentadvertising.com For information on managing your privacy preferences with HP, see the Your Privacy Controls section below.

What data do we use?

In the context of advertising, “first-party data” involves data relating to direct interactions between you and HP, and “third-party data” is data we obtain from third party parties. The ads that you see are selected based on information learned about you over time using demographic data, how you use our products and services (such as product usage data, device data, application data, printer usage data), your subscription status and partner measurement data, and the information we are provided with about you from the sites and apps of our advertisers and partners.
