Reinventing Security
April 05, 2017
Companies are under cyber-attack, with the average cost of a data breach to businesses now $9.5 million. These attacks are coming from all angles, and with many businesses focusing solely on PC security, print security has been forgotten.
On Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th April, HP will be hosting a European security press and analyst summit in London, demonstrating the company’s growing security portfolio.
On both days, Nick Lazaridis, EMEA President and Shane Wall, HP’s Chief Technology Officer will discuss why HP is raising awareness of businesses lack of PC and print security. They will also be talking through HP’s growing security suite. This includes the Elite family of PCs, HP Sure View and Secure Erase and the Print Security portfolio which helps businesses with device, document and data security.
Michael Calce (aka MafiaBoy), the highly-publicised hacker who launched a series of denial-of-service attacks against large businesses including Yahoo and eBay will be giving a view from the inside on what hackers are looking for and how pertintent the issue is for businesses.
There will also be an introduction to HP Labs, the company’s research division, which investigates emerging security concerns as more users integrate new connected products and services into their lives.

Michael Calce “MafiaBoy”
Canada’s most notorious White Hat hacker
“Blended reality is the trend that both broadens and complicates the range of possible interactions between devices and their management systems. A large amount of our current innovation work is therefore directed towards ensuring that these technologies can be kept secure when they come to fruition, even if we don’t know exactly what they are going to look like.”
Shane Wall HP’s Chief Technology Officer
“To maximise their ROI, attackers have been drawn to making more investments in attacking hardware or firmware. This is attractive to them because once successful, it gives them full control over any software on the device, malware will persist between reboots, is hard to detect using software techniques and extremely difficult to remove.”
Shane Wall HP’s Chief Technology Officer
“There’s an unexpected vulnerability sat in most offices and homes around the world – the printer. Modern printers are fully functioning clients on the network. Attacks have already compromised printers, but few know the full risks. The printer could well be the 21st Century’s ‘Trojan Horse.”
Nick Lazaridis EMEA President
"Security is a strategic priority for HP – it’s not just important to our customers, but it’s our responsibility to help keep people’s data secure and hackers at bay. We are making a commitment to deliver to our customers, products that are inherently secure.”
Nick Lazaridis EMEA President
“Despite what people believe, security issues aren’t limited to computers and networks. Today’s printers look a whole lot like PCs, and need to be protected accordingly. You cannot walk into a business today and start using a laptop or desktop without first authenticating and gaining authorization to the network, why should you be able to with a printer?”
David Ryan EMEA President, HP Inc.
“Every business, and every person worldwide is a potential target for a cyberattack, and those attacks are at an all time high. The workplace is changing, and people increasingly depend on their devices, which makes them more exposed than ever before. Security software is no longer sufficient in keeping these attackers at bay, security needs to be built in to the endpoint device you use.”
Achim Kuttler EMEA Vice President and General Manager, Personal Systems.
