Rated 2 out of 5 by DataEngineer6 from Good Computer, Bad Laptop TLDR: Overall it is a good computer if you use it on a flat surface but not a great laptop. Criteria I was considering when looking for a new laptop: I had a personal HP laptop (HP ProBook 440 G5) for 5 years, that I loved but was unfortunately damaged (My fault, it was a good laptop). Coincidentally I was sent an HP for work (HP ZBook Firefly 14 g8) a year ago that has the same keyboard layout. I can type pretty fast on them due to muscle memory so I wanted this laptop to have the exact same keyboard. I was looking for an HP laptop with an i7 processor and 16 GiB of ram. This model fit that bill. First impressions: When I first got the laptop I was really impressed by how sleek it looks. The screen is super crisp, and the casing looks sharp. I overall liked the feel and responsiveness of it, and have been blown away by the display. I am a data engineer and while I do most of my coding on my work laptop this is able to run some simple golang and Python projects very easily. I also plug this laptop into my docking station with two external monitors and it drives those well, but not as well as my Zbook. The keyboard on this model is slightly smaller than the two laptops I mentioned previously, so this slightly messed up my muscle memory. I was a little annoyed given that this was a bigger factor in me picking this laptop but I've adjusted and its not a big deal. Why the low rating By now I've had this for about two months. The part that really annoys me about this laptop is the touchpad. If the laptop surface is just slightly not even, then the touchpad won't pop back up when you click with it. For instance if you are using the laptop in your lap (hence the name laptop) you have to make sure that the laptop is flat on your lap. If you cross your legs, then the pressure is not evenly applied across the bottom and the touch pad gets stuck. I typically "grab" my laptop when I use it, so my thumb is squeezing the laptop from underneath, and it is impossible to use the touchpad while doing this. It seems that the plastic casing is too pliable compared to the other HP Laptops I've had. I can only guess that the people who designed this laptop only tested it on a flat surface. At first I thought I could look past this, now I'm pretty fed up with it given how much money I spent and the fact that I want to have this computer for at least 5 years like my last laptop. HP's return policy is 30 days, so I guess I will have to make do.

The battery life of a brand new computer is 1hr. 1/3 of the storage space is already used by bloatware. Not all of said bloatware can be deleted. Computers takes forever to turn on and runs VERY slowly.

I use this laptop just for backing up work, and playing on the internet, so I am not a hardcore user or gamer. I'm not even online for more than 2 hours at a time, and I can see a big decrease in battery life. I transferred files, which took about 3 hours, and had to recharge the battery. The finger print reader, worked for the first few times I used the computer, now it doesn't seem to work, and I constantly have to use a PIN to get into the computer. Not a big deal, but kind of disappointing. Last negative, the thing heats up pretty good, and pretty quick. Now, the pros, the display is beautiful, and the key board has a good feel to it. Even though it heats up quick, it stays quiet, no fan noise. This is great laptop for students, or casual user.
