GPU-based codec support (QuickSync in some Intel CPUs and NVENC in all NVIDIA GPUs) helps with some media formats, so low-end GPUs are sufficient. Move up to higher-end GPUs when using effects and color grading.

Determined by project scale; multi-camera shoots with proxy workflow can require massive amounts of storage. Offline editing uses lower compression files, so size is more important than speed.

6-8 cores / 3.5+ GHz​

3D modeling applications tend to be single-threaded and therefore favor clock speed over number of cores, so choose a high-frequency (at least 3.5GHz) 6- or 8-core processor.​​
​Rendering applications tend to be multi-threaded and can scale with higher CPU core counts, so if rendering on the same machine, choose a higher core count CPU while maintaining clock speed.

NVIDIA RTX A5000 class or above

Consider whether the renderer has GPU-accelerated features or is a GPU-only renderer. Either way, most can take advantage of two GPUs while some can scale with multiple GPUs.

A good rule of thumb is 3-6GB per core

Determined by project scale but min 1 TB. Amount of texture data inflates storage requirements.

VFX applications tend to be multi-threaded so performance scales with core count. Choose a CPU with at least 12-18 cores and a base frequency of 3 GHz (based on current gen CPUs)​.
