Amazing Hardware, HP/Windows Software
Frankly, the laptop is amazing. The hardware is 5 stars, especially for this price point--comparable silicon from apple would be several grand more and no one else produces this kind of product. However, that silicon is 100% AMD. So what did HP do? They put in a fair amount of storage (1TB) which was nice. Not so nice is the heavy duty software - Wolf Security and other bloat-like code. Wolf Security itself is not evil but does consume some solid RAM here and there. Other HP software in general works to slow the machine down slightly. For a business use-case, I understand why they installed all of this - VP Joe probably doesn't know/care about malware readiness and is happy is computer reminds him he's secure every few days. For a personal use case like mine (research computing), I ripped it all out fast. The software in general is strange. Currently, the machine tells me I have 96 GB RAM. I have 128. Why? Who knows. I'll restart it and it'll probably find its brain, but glitches like these make the user experience a little hairy. Not entirely HP's fault (Microsoft is equally if not more to blame, and I should've put linux on this but I'm stubborn) but a significant portion is.

Battery failed after 5th week of owning
Laptop was great to use overall while it was working. Was very disappointed when I received a critical battery failure from the HP diagnostic indicating the battery needed to be replaced. This is a brand new five week old device. After contacting support, the first option was to ship my laptop (my workstation mind you) and receive it back in approximately two weeks. It's a workstation, I cannot be offline for two weeks. For onsite tech, after a nearly two hour call, I am waiting for the next step because the support number I called had their own IT issues and could not start the on site order process, which was explained to be a lengthy process involving purchase orders and scheduling once the Fed Ex part is shipped. I am unsure of next steps, but certainly regretting my decision to purchase an HP product.

I want to know if the ZBook Ultra G1a is compatible with an eGPU
Thank you for your question! That will depend on the requirements of the eGPU. This HP ZBook Ultra 14-inch G1a Mobile Workstation PC does have 2 Thunderbolt ports, which are normally used by eGPUs.
