Why should you care?

Counterfeit cartridges may seem like a true alternative. However, they entail serious risks
and threats.

Fakes threaten

Fakes threaten

  • + Your printer

Counterfeit cartridges may cause damage to your HP LaserJet printer hardware2 – which can lead to downtimes of the whole company’s printing infrastructure and disruption of entire workflows.

  • + Your reputation

Manufacturing and distributing counterfeit items is illegal. So, buying fakes may bring you and your organization into contact with shady business which may be operated by large-scale criminal syndicates.

  • + Your workspace

Original HP toner cartridges can help you be confident your HP printing system3 will perform within eco-label emission guidelines. Even though eco-labels are voluntary, HP invests time and money in toner cartridges designed to meet eco-label criteria3.

  • + Our environment

Be a partner to the planet. Buying from a sustainability leader like HP helps conserve resources when printing, and when you are done, you can help close the loop by using HP's easy and free recycling program.4

Frequently asked questions

What are counterfeit printing supplies?

Counterfeiting in the printing supplies business means the manufacturing, refilling or (“reman”) remanufacturing of a print cartridge with the intention to market it in a way that suggests it is an original brand name product. This usually involves putting a reman or refill or imitation cartridge into a box that closely resembles genuine HP packaging, which can deceive customers into paying a higher price for a fraudulent product.

What is fraud?

Fraud is an act of deceiving or misrepresenting by presenting an intentional perversion of the truth intended to induce a person to part with something of value, usually money. While fraud can occur without the presence of counterfeit products, counterfeiting itself is a form of fraud.

How can I help stop the spread of counterfeit printing supplies?

The easiest way is to report it (even when you’re unsure it’s counterfeit product) at hp.com/go/anticounterfeit. For smaller orders, take photographs and then complete the online form detailing suspected counterfeit activities. For large shipments, use our Counterfeit Delivery Inspection. Just ask your HP representative for this no-cost inspection to verify both product quality and authenticity.

I want to make a large purchase; how do I make sure it’s safe?

Contact your HP rep and our experts will assist you through the purchasing process and certify the authenticity upon delivery so you know you’re receiving 100% genuine HP printing supplies.

How do I check my Samsung cartridges?

Samsung supplies now include HP security labels so you can check the same way you would for HP cartridges.

  1. Visually check the security label
  2. Use a QR code reader (on smartphone or tablet devices) or enter the serial number online (any Internet-connected device) at hp.com/go/ok
