Singles Day 2022
Every year in November, even before Black Friday, the so-called "Singles Day" takes place on 11/11, a new bargain event that has spilled over to us from China. As a rule, the offers start at midnight and end at 11:59 pm. This gives shoppers a whopping 24 hours to find the best products that aren't too hard on the wallet.

What exactly is Singles Day?
Just as there is a special day for lovers and couples, there is now also a day when singles can indulge their shopping passion and get special offers. Singles Day originated in China and is not yet well known in many countries around the world.
November 11 was chosen as the date because the number “1” is supposed to stand for a single person, aka a "single". On this day, young Chinese, mainly men, used to go to parties in bars and clubs to find a partner or celebrate their life as a single person. Finding a partner proved to be extremely difficult for many male Chinese due to the 1-child policy in China, as there were far fewer women than men at the time.
Singles Day itself was created in 1993 by Chinese students as a contrast to Valentine's Day and celebrates not partnership but being alone, i.e. single life itself.
Singles Day as an online shopping event
Since 2009, the Chinese e-commerce giant AliExpress has been offering particularly good deals and high discounts for its customers on Singles Day. In the meantime, more than 22,000 brands participate in this special bargain day, so that the sales of the participating stores on this day are higher than on all other shopping event days combined. And every year on Singles Day, the number of Singles Day offers, coupons, and bargains also increases, and with them the sales made on this very special day. On average, every Chinese spends around €200 on Singles Day.
Meanwhile, this day has become the biggest online shopping event in the world, even bigger than Cyber Monday and Black Friday combined - at least in terms of financial success. 2 years ago, total sales on these two days were around $22 billion, while Singles Day alone had already amassed over $38 billion. In Germany, too, more and more retailers are therefore taking up this new tradition and offering numerous bargains on Singles Day. This new shopping event is expected to grow bigger and bigger, too.
By the way, relationship status is irrelevant for your purchase. You can therefore also benefit from the deals if you are in a relationship or even married.
What weekday is Singles Day 2022?
This year, Singles Day 2022, will be celebrated on a Thursday. However, since Singles Day is celebrated exclusively online and is also not tied to a fixed day of the week, like Cyber Monday or Black Friday, it can always take place on the same date. After all, the Internet never closes, so there is no need to observe the opening hours of individual stores, as is now the case with other shopping events.
