HP and MPI Tech have worked together to provide the IPDS Emulation DIMM and the IPDS Emulation Flash Card, also known as The Blue Kit.
 
The Blue Kit: "Turn your Hewlett Packard LaserJet into a full IBM AFP printer".
The Blue Kit is designed to specifically provide the HP LaserJet printers the ability to print AFP/IPDS jobs from IBM Mainframe (S370 and S390) or Midrange ( AS/400 or AIX) systems.
A simple installation of the IPDS Emulation DIMM or Flash Card in the memory slot of the LaserJet brings IBM AFP/IPDS native emulation to the printer. Your HP LaserJet printers will be able to print usual PCL/PostScript output but also the IBM IPDS data directly from the IBM host systems. No translation from IPDS to PCL, just native IPDS on the printer.
The Blue Kit DIMM or Flash Card works in full harmony with the HP JetDirect EIO print servers when the IPDS data is sent over TCP/IP. For SNA (Coax or Twinax) IBM networks The IPDS DIMM works in conjunction with the MPI Hostcom EIO card.
All the IBM IPDS features are supported:
- Native IPDS emulation
- IBM distributed IPDS emulation: (3812/3816, 3912/3916, 4028, IBM Network printers, IBM InfoPrint printers)
- Directly supports bi-directional Host protocol
- Seamless emulation switching between PCL, PostScript, SCS, IPDS and transparent ASCII
- Supports all IPDS TOWERS (Barcode, Images, Electronic forms, overlays, resource management, Error recovery,.)
- Input IPDS resolution 240, 300 and 600 dpi
- Resident fonts included : (IBM 3812/4028 Raster fonts and InfoPrint Outline fonts)
- Margin adjustments

- Embedded Web Server for remote configuration
- Edge to Edge application support.
- Input trays mapping
- Output Devices supported (Output bins, stacker,.)
- For HP LaserJet 8000, with microcode version 4.48 or higher, use the IPDS DIMM for HP LaserJet 8100.
