Sustainable Technology: Eco-Friendly Innovations in HP's Intel Evo Laptops

While a product’s price and reliability are important features to consider, more shoppers are turning to other values - like sustainability - when deciding what to buy. A recent survey revealed that 49% of online shoppers look to a brand’s values when making a purchase. They find it important that the companies they support are also doing their part to support the causes that matter.
If you are like these consumers, you might find HP’s latest move to more sustainable products a reason to give the Intel Evo laptops a look.
The tech industry is making changes and has been focused on creating powerful devices with sustainability in mind.
But what does this mean? For laptops, it includes a blend of durable and high-performance materials that use fewer natural resources. Eco-friendly laptops also consume less energy than their counterparts, using standards set by Energy STAR and other organizations to demonstrate this commitment. Even the way they are made is different, using waste from farms and trash in oceans to create a beautiful end product with fewer negative environmental consequences.

HP's commitment to sustainability

HP's commitment to sustainability
The mission of helping the planet is not a new one for HP. We began with diverting ocean-bound plastics and keeping millions of pounds of plastic materials out of landfills and oceans. Where did these plastics end up? Over 50 HP products, including laptops and cases, use these recycled materials.
That's not all. HP's future goals include achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in 2040 and reaching carbon neutrality and zero waste in HP operations by 2025. Our products will have 75% circularity, using even more post-consumer waste materials than ever before.
HP even achieved zero deforestation for 99% of its branded paper and paper-based packaging, and the other 1% meets sustainable paper and wood requirements. HP achieved 100% deforestation for our own paper brand in 2016 through our work with over 100 suppliers and a goal to be more accountable for sourcing our paper goods.
These measures show that big things are happening at HP right now, even as we strive to do better in the future. One way is with our products available to consumers at every price point, including the cutting-edge laptops made with Intel Evo technology inside.

What is Intel Evo Certification?

The Intel Evo platform prioritizes performance with responsiveness, offering users the ability to multitask and get more done in their day. The technology supports many different uses, from editing videos to working on data projects. When you buy an HP laptop with the Intel® Evo™ sticker, you know you are getting the right balance of power and practicality.
To meet the strict certification requirements, a laptop must have:
  • An 11th Generation or later Intel Core™ processor
  • A minimum of 8GB RAM
  • Solid-state drive (SSD) storage
  • Fast charging capabilities with at least four hours of battery life on a 30-minute charge
  • WiFi 6 capabilities
  • Thunderbolt 4 port
The laptops may have other innovative features, but without any of the above specifications, they cannot be called Intel Evo laptops. The certification represents a level of testing that has been done to ensure the device will be reliable over its lifetime.

Sustainability features in HP's Intel Evo laptops

Because HP’s laptops, specifically, are designed with post-consumer recycled materials and care for the environment, you get a great balance of sustainable benefits in one sleek and beautiful device.
The HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop (16t-f2000) is loaded with thoughtful details that show how we care for the planet. The speaker enclosure and bezel are made from ocean-bound plastic, while the keyboard mechanism is created from agricultural waste.

The laptop uses recycled metal throughout, including in the cover, base, drop jaw, hinge caps, and keyboard frame. Even the keyboard caps come from things people normally throw away; they are made with post-consumer recycled plastic.
It's also Energy STAR®-certified to meet reduced energy use requirements and has the EPEAT® Climate+ rating of Gold. This means it meets at least 75% of optional criteria and all required Climate Criteria in how the product lifecycle impacts the world around us.
The HP ENVY x360 2-in-1 Laptop (15-ew1047nr) is another great pick from the Intel Evo list of products. It boasts the same Energy STAR and EPEAT Gold Climate+ rating, plus has recycled materials in its speakers, bezel, cover, base and hinge caps, and keyboard.

Its light weight of just over 4 lbs. means you can take it just about anywhere and forget checking an extra bag at the airport. The portability of this laptop (and others in the HP Intel Evo line) helps ensure your business trips are efficient and productive.
Finally, the HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop offers incredible speed and a full line of perks, including the 13th Gen Intel Core processor with a hybrid design. The lightning-speed performance core lets you do multiple things simultaneously while supporting a fully immersive display, Thunderbolt connector, 1920 x 1080 resolution touch screen (with a pen), and much more.

The Energy STAR and EPEAT Gold Climate+ ratings were given to this laptop, too, helping it join the others on our list with an eye for details that matter.

Performance meets sustainability

Laptops with the Intel Evo platform inside are tested for energy efficiency. They have modern processing capabilities that use resources efficiently and still support working on multiple applications at once. With the fast-charge feature, you can power up quickly wherever you go and have a longer battery life for the long workday ahead. Many also feature power-saving modes that waste less energy and help extend the life of the device.
How do these laptops compare with other devices? Traditional laptops lacked the standards guaranteed by Intel Evo, including performance, responsiveness, and energy efficiency. They also had more "trade-offs."
For example, a traditional laptop could have less RAM or an HDD storage solution instead of an SSD. It could mix and match a fast-charge battery with an earlier version of WiFi. Because there are no set standards for how the components come together, you don’t get the same certainty of a bare minimum performance as with Intel Evo platforms.

Impact on carbon footprint

In addition to creating less new waste and using recycled materials for many of its components, HP is making broader efforts to leave less impact on the environment.
HP currently uses 100% renewable electricity to power the final assembly of over 95% of its laptops and monitors worldwide.

Looking towards a greener future

It seems that just about every tech brand is talking about the things it’s going to do to make the world a better place. But not all of them are putting their words into action. That’s because it takes more than a few laptop features to make a significant change, and it needs to start with how the company approaches everything it does.
HP’s Intel Evo models are sustainable in two ways. First, they are made with the high expectations of the Intel Evo certification. They promote productivity and flexibility and give users a beautiful way to work and play. They are so balanced that you won’t have to choose between a great battery life or a processor that gets the job done.
And since they are made by HP, there is a lot that has already happened – even before the laptop was built – that demonstrates a dedication to sustainability and care for those around us. This includes how our PCs and devices uniquely implement waste and recycled materials. It even influences how the laptops come packaged inside the boxes and bags that keep them safe during transportation.
Doing more with less is a big part of the HP legacy, and this partnership with Intel Evo's cutting-edge technology is one that fully supports our future, too.

Summary

We know that consumers have a choice in laptops. There are hundreds to choose from, many with Intel technology inside. By selecting one from the Intel Evo line made by HP, you are prioritizing "greener" tech that actually enhances your life. It's not just a better way to shop; it's a better way to work. You don't have to choose between products that make you feel good and products that help you do good.
For those who aren't yet ready to commit to a different way of shopping, that's OK, too. All of HP's products support a circular manufacturing process, fewer trees being destroyed, and fewer unnecessary pieces of plastic in our oceans. So, if you choose an HP Intel Evo just for the memory, storage, speed, and battery life, you'll still support things that matter.
