Powerful Security Features, Built into Your PC

Your patients trust you with their lives and their physical well-being. They also trust that the information they provide to you will be stored securely in order to protect their privacy. Just like the advice and treatment you dispense, the security of your practice's data can never be taken lightly.
While there are a variety of data and device protection solutions out there, many of them can be difficult to deploy and use and all too often they don't work well together. That's why HP offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to data protection—HP ProtectTools1, a proprietary HP solution that comes preinstalled on several different models of business desktops and notebooks. Offering a seamless and integrated experience, HP ProtectTools obviates the need for multiple user manuals or hours of configuration time. In fact, a few minutes is sometimes all it takes to start putting HP ProtectTools to work for you.

Security Manager

The Security Manager console is at the heart of the HP ProtectTools suite, bringing together a wide array of security capabilities into a single, easy-to-use interface. Its modular design means you can deploy only the features that you need, while allowing you to expand capabilities at any time.

Device Access Manager

There are several scenarios in which you may want to assign different types of users (i.e. physicians, nurses, and administrators) different levels of access. With the HP Device Access Manager, you can create complex rules based on customized user profiles, including read/write access profiles for all devices. One such configuration might allow some users in your office to view specific patient data, but not permit them to copy or print that data. You may wish to limit USB access to administrators only. Such features can prevent unwanted copying of data from your hard drive onto removable media.

Drive Encryption

Data encryption is the best way to protect information on a hard drive. Available on many of HP's commercial products, Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools encrypts either certain data or entire volumes (through a simple, intuitive interface), encoding that information on a hard drive so that it is unreadable to an unauthorized user. Such encryption features can help to support HIPAA privacy & data protection requirements. And if, by chance, you forget your password, all is not lost—HP has a back-up solution and web recovery service that's available separately.
These are just some of the modules available through HP ProtectTools; others can be added based on your data and device security needs. Regardless of which features you find most useful, you can be assured that all of these HP-designed modules work together seamlessly and with relatively little effort on your part.
