HP empowers Gen Z & Millennials

Supporting a purpose-driven workforce

September 15, 2022

At HP, we recognize that today's younger employees, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, seek more than financial perks in their careers. They desire opportunities to make a positive impact on the world, and we are committed to providing these experiences for our team members.

We understand that work-life balance, flexible schedules, and generous vacation policies contribute to employee happiness, but we also believe that supporting a sense of purpose is essential. Our team members value employer-supported volunteering and initiatives that align with their values, such as sustainability, justice, and diversity.

One way we foster purpose-driven work at HP is through our annual 40 Days of Doing Good campaign. This initiative invites employees and partners to volunteer individually or with their teams in their local communities. In 2022, 4,938 HP employees from 53 countries volunteered 42,972 hours, supporting organizations worldwide. Additionally, HP offers a $2,500 matching donation for employees' nonprofit contributions and allows four hours of monthly volunteering for the cause of their choice.

These purpose-driven experiences not only give our employees a personal sense of fulfillment but also help shape their perception of HP as an employer. Studies have shown that employees' satisfaction with their employer's commitment to societal impact directly impacts loyalty. As a result, we are proud to be part of the 47% of US companies that offered volunteer programs in 2022, up from 40% in 2014.

Our Gen Z employees are pushing for even more intentional and immersive volunteering programs. They prioritize commitment to issues like climate change and racial inequality and seek opportunities to use their skills for meaningful change. In response, we ensure that our volunteering programs align with employee priorities and offer flexibility in both virtual and in-person options. Giving our team members a say in shaping these programs and providing a platform to share best practices is crucial for success.

As we continue to attract and retain top talent, HP remains committed to empowering our younger generations to find purpose-driven work and make a positive impact through their careers. By supporting our employees in their quest for meaningful change, we strengthen our company culture and contribute to a better world.
