Rated 5 out of 5 by Shane_VR from Currently best headset on the market I have had this headset, since launch and in my opinion it is still the best PCVR headset on the market. All the standalone headsets are way to heavy with their battery packs. I largely play sims, and what I want is light weight, comfort, and high visual quality for long gaming sessions, and this headset delivers. Would buy again, and if they make a G3 I will buy it, assuming they don't give in to the current fad of making heavy cumbersome wireless headsets. Also as of this posting I looked into upgrading, with a budget of $2000, and there is nothing I currently want, so I decided to write a review with how pleased I am with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Moom from Only slightly better than the "other popular headset"! My rating is based on comparison between the Reverb G2 V2 and the "other popular headset" when using them both for Flight Simulator 2020. The Reverb G2 is only slightly better visually than the "other popular headset" using a link Cable. If you own "the other popular headset", it's not worth the upgrade.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ShiftyGrim from Good hardware, terible software. Great hardware let down by the software but at $400 its still compelling for PCVR. The biggest upgrade they could offer would be to have it support SteamVR without HP software running in the background. I constantly get unnecessary popups from the HP software while in game, and it can't be helping performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RAMSAM from Still the best I've been using my HPR G2 for a year. I am very satisfied with it. The build quality is very good, the comfort is excellent and the sound excellent too. Setup is easy on Windows 10 with either Mixed Reality Portal or SteamVR. I always use it seated so I can't comment on its qualities in standing action games. For having discussed with several other users with helmets of various brands and models, the HPR G2 still remains the best value for money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Beat Saber Jedi from When it works, it's 5 stars! -1 for requiring WMR, -1 for frustrating setup. Setup was a pain. It's unfortunate that the headset requires Windows Mixed Reality, since features don't seem to work consistently. It would be better if the Reverb could run on Steam VR alone. If your lighting or furniture changes, the headset will forget your room boundaries, fade to gray, and possibly crash Steam VR. When that happens, you may as well restart your whole computer, because you won't be able to launch any apps from WMR after that. The headset settings are not optimized out of the box. Good luck trying to research the correct driver/wmr/steam vr configurations to work around stuttering lag. I have only found opinions, not answers. With all that said, when it works, it's pretty awesome. Not requiring a Facebook account is an A+ feature, and along with the sale price, that was what sold me on the Reverb over competitors. No Man's Sky is gorgeous and immersive... until you turn your shoulders and the screen turns gray. Beat Saber works, but framerate degrades over time, even with my RX 6800 GPU. I have had to return half of the VR titles I purchased because the controllers aren't compatible. I got it on sale for $399.00. I wouldn't recommend paying more than that unless they fix the compatibility issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kber from comfortable, immersive, great fun! Had it for a week. Set up went smoothly with a little googling. DCS world is amazing with this! I currently have an Nvidia gtx 1070, so running at half resolution. Game play is smooth, but the labels in the cockpit are hard to read. I have a 4070 ti on order, so looking forward to that! Will update if anything changes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BirdTho from Headset is great, hand controllers could be better Picture is good, sound is excellent. As many say there's more clarity in the center of the display than the edges. The cable locks into the headset with a retention mechanism. Seems secure. The hand controllers are a bit small in the hand, and the fov of the headset means that sometimes they lose tracking. It is possible to accidentally cause the battery covers to slip off when gripping the controllers firmly. Also small hand controllers make it more challenging to aim weapons, and pulling triggers is harder to do with long fingers. The headset fitting and ergonomics are excellent, including the nose cover. Even my large nose fits comfortably. I've worn it for 2-3 hours without issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Blackthorn from Works with Beat Saber Reverb G2 is great so far. No issues. I bought some ceiling hooks so I could put the cord out of my way. I've heard it can't track well for Beat Saber - well this is wrong, as the tracking is phenomenal and I've been playing Beat Saber a lot with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by andrwprk from Don't buy unless you don't care that it lasts less than a year. Less than a year later the display only works with an extremely pink tint. And when I chatted in to support about it they said I should buy a part that was $186 before taxes and then take it to a repair store. Let me repeat: this happened in less than a year.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ChiuauaJay from Not bad but not great An improvement over the previous gen but not there yet. PC System requirements are still pretty steep and you have to tweak a lot to get things right. PSVR2 doesn;t look as good but runs far smoother because they cap the gra[hic settings.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Bad build quality from Very poor build quality and customer support. I've had this headset for 2 years. It never met my expectations or the advertised goals. I expected to use the "high definition" displays to work in VR and needed it to be able to read text clearly. It can't do that. Build quality is poor. With very low use, the cable management tabs broke within a year and the right display now shows many vertical lines on it. The headset has spent the past 2 years mostly sitting on my desk. There is absolutely no reason the cable or the screens should be having any issues with as little use as I put this headset to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fraz25 from Best value in vr. When this is on sale there’s no better headset for vr. The only issue I have is with Windows mixed reality being buggy. But 9/10 times it’ll work perfectly. I do want hp to work with valve on native steam vr support if possible. Just so this isn’t list of Microsoft decides to sunset wmr

Rated 3 out of 5 by Evan9999 from The poor lenses let down the great screens. Great screens, but the lenses leave a lot to be desired. The sweet spot that is in focus at any given time is a pretty small area right in the center. Clarity much better than the other headsets in this price range, but boy do I wish I could afford something better. It will have to do for now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by No longer an HPcustomer from DON'T BUY! CABLE WILL BREAK AND CANNOT BE REPLACED I bought about 30 of these headsets - the quality is great and visuals far better than the quest 2, HOWEVER, customer service is so bad that I can only call this product a giant grift. On several of my sets, the cable went bad within 3 days of use. I had to pay $200 a cable for replacements and backups. They knew it was faulty and made a version 2, but they neglected to give me the updated cables on my new purchases, and now, you can't even buy the replacement cables. My headsets are worthless as cables have been out of stock for almost a year and I don't believe they intend to make more. They won't own up to their mistakes or make it right, even though they should and could afford to do so. HP completely failed us and caused us to lose thousands of dollars in contracts and shut are VR business down.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 8-Bitw0nder from Decent The display on the Reverb G2 is excellent and the head tracking is near perfect. I haven't had many issues with these features and have no complaints in their regard... HOWEVER, the tracking of the controllers is terrible, and extremely frustrating to deal with. I also commonly run into issues where software designed for VR doesn't seem to have compatibility with these controller mappings, which is also extremely frustrating to deal with. All in all, there is room for much improvement, but a fair effort at the price you pay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tommy D. from Love my purchase, also it is the v2 you are getting! My first headset, tracking is better than I expected after reading reviews, the controllers and haptic feedback are nice, only thing is my IPD is rather large and would be better if I could adjust it to 71-72mm but other than that a great experience! Audio is also surprisingly amazing and loud enough!

Rated 1 out of 5 by AVenk from Unable to use product Not too happy with the product. This system needs a Display port compulsorily but it not mentioned as compulsory in the product information. I am having an Alienware M15 R6 with NVidia 3080. It is disappointing that they do not specifically mention USB -C must be display port as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dean420 from Paperweight, do not buy. I have a 4070ti and an 9550x ryzen 9. Max frames I could get in 2k was around 50fps and everything was soooo jerky that it was unusable. Hours of research all let to the same conclusion that windows mixed reality is a bottleneck and possibly that something called open xr might help. Support just says its my drivers and or bios so basically no support if not using an HP computer. Lol. Its a paperweight until I can find a way of improving the jerkyness. All I know is any claim that an old graphics card like the 20 or 30 series cards will work is complete bs. If you don't have a 4090 or better I would opt for something with lower resolution as it will never be used in 2k or better anyway. The headset is comfy and light. I really wish my brand new gaming pc was good enough or that they didn't need windows mixed reality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anxu from Excellent clarity and color, FOV and sweet spot still leave more to be desired Sharpness and clarity is very good, but even with the v2 version, the FOV is still narrower than what I had with the Quest 2 via Quest Link/AirLink. Nevertheless I now use this headset only for flight simulation and it's great for that. It's too bad that HP decided to exit this market, as they could just add pancake lenses and improve the FOV and that would be enough to keep more buyer like me coming.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mike532 from Can wear for hours. Light weight which makes it very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. Only reason it is not 5 stars is because I am having trouble getting the settings right for it to run perfectly in MSFS 2020. This is not a hit on the HP Reverb G2. The other reason it is not 5 stars is because the field of vision is not as wide as I was expecting, but for the price, it is a great headset.

Rated 4 out of 5 by VRletdown from No VR video support Used headset for about 6 months. In games like MSFS 2020 it is great. Big disappointment is that it does not work for YouTube VR videos. No support regarding lack of YouTube VR functioning from both Microsoft (who is promoting this product on their VR Edge website - where VR videos also do not work) and also no support from HP. This is ridiculous from 2 companies that have millions if not billions on their account and thousands of employees. Likely it is regarding money sharing with Google. Again paying customers put in the middle of financial dispute of giants who are pretending there is “no problem”. What a joke - embarrassment for HP, Microsoft and Google.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Chad Geidel from Great for Sim Racing! I tried the first generation G2 and it didn't work with my AMD system. This newer model works without issue on my AMD computer. I am a sim racer so I cannot speak to the performance of the hand controls, but the headset works great. One caveat is that you have to be in a well-lit room. This "inside out" headset doesn't work well in the dark. That the original version didn't work on AMD systems is an oversight that warranted one less star.

How much better is this vr headset better then my Oculus quest2 How hard is it to set up and run?

Asked by: Zombiekiller196
So basically it depends on what you want. The q 2 has better tracking even with the new update. The update has fixed some tracking issues is what hp says and the connection issues shouldnt be as bad with the updated cable. I've heard they kind of disapeared. The G2 does have a much better resolution and thats the main selling point. These are some of the differences, but go watch a yt vid on them.

With a 3060 Ti graphics card, would performance be in the "full resolution" category?

Asked by: jks17
ACKSHUALLY- it does, and it runs the headset wonderfully. I have a 3060ti and it runs games like Boneworks, Blade and Sorcery, etc at 100% (Have not tested HL:A yet). I don't know how HP has the guts to mention a plain 2060 can meet minimum spec, but a card far above it is not able to.

I got my HP reverb G2 1 month ago and it was working perfect, I swapped out my gpu recently and my vr worked the first time. I tried it again a few days after but it was flickering like crazy and it was super dim. It's unusable and I need suggestions.

Asked by: Chris39
I had this happen to me as well when I bought a 6900xt on sale. Apparently it is the newest driver causing the issues. The flickering went away when I went back to an older driver. I don't remember the driver number off hand I sent that video card back, I wasn't happy with the performance for the cost and went with Nvidia this time 3080. Haven't had any problems with it or even AMD when I rolled back to older driver.

Asked by: Johnneh
No, mine just arrived yesterday, was expected from July 13 - July 20. The only downside is that I learned that it's still incompatible with my GPU which is a RTX3090ti, even when it says it is compatible with RTX3000 series....

Full resolution is 2160x2160 What's the actual half resolution?

Asked by: Jveiras
TLDR: [100% Render Resolution of 3164x3100 Per Eye = Display Resolution of 2160x2160 Per Eye 50% Render Resolution is 2236x2192 Per Eye = Display Resolution of ~1527x1527 Per Eye (What you asked for is 50% Display Resolution) Keep in mind your system will render more pixels than the amount projected onto the display, so when considering performance you should look at the Render Resolution and if you're considering the clarity of what you will view, you should look at Display Resolution.] Due to distortions in the lenses, your system will render applications at a higher resolution than the display resolution and then distort it on the displays, so that the lenses 'redistort' the view of the displays to make it look normal. Think of it as taking a picture with a fisheye lens and then correcting the fisheye effect. For clarity: 'Render Resolution' = the amount of pixels your system processes 'Display Resolution' = the amount of pixels the display projects Looking at my SteamVR settings these are the results I got: 100% Render Resolution = 3164x3100 Per Eye 50% Render Resolution = 2236x2192 Per Eye 100% Render Resolution of 3164x3100 Per Eye = Display Resolution of 2160x2160 Per Eye 50% Render Resolution is 2236x2192 Per Eye = Display Resolution of ~1527x1527 Per Eye Keep in mind your system will render more pixels than the amount projected onto the display, so when considering performance you should look at the Render Resolution and if you're considering the clarity of what you will view, you should look at Display Resolution.

is there any tracking comparison videos between the old and the new version of this headset, because this looks like its going to be an upgrade to my rift s if its better.

Asked by: Toca
I do not know if there is or not, but I can confirm that the new revision is awful with tracking and can hardly properly register a controller sitting still right in front of it when initially trying to start anything. To quote a fellow reviewer: “I am going to go back to my ancient Rift CV1 as that is a wholly better experience than this e-waste.” It was the same story with my but with the Quest 2.
