Rated 1 out of 5 by walk22 from requires being on line to scan I wanted a laser printer, scanner, copier that I could connect to my computer using a cable. I got a device required substantial technical support to print without being wireless on line, and that has to be online to scan documents. I don't want to have to be online to scan documents. I'm very disappointed. This was not what I wanted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AMG1 from Crisp copies The printer itself is great, the print quality is actually fantastic. The time to print is also reasonable. Printer warms up fast enough, The only problem is that you need the app to scan and not directly from the printer. Also - it was a total pain to connect it to the network. Someone from HP had to help me and even then it took over 2 hours.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DRoiDonCloud from Excellent printer but document feeder is not Decent printer, excellent print quality and duplex feature. I'm amazed with the longevity of the tank and the replacement price. Unfortunately the document feeder proved to be useless as it distorted lines in the document. Printer was returned, waiting for a new one to arrive. Hopefully it's an isolated incident and not a design flaw...

Rated 1 out of 5 by dd123 from NOTHING IS GOOD ABOUT THIS PRINTER. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! If I could give it negative stars I would. I am so disappointed. First HP printer I had was perfect and ran for more than a decade. Second similar one I got less than 5 years. This one that should have been comparable in price and features, I could not even setup. Shows Wifi is working on printer screen, but shows offline on computer. Would not recognize PIN - would say "Times up - your printer is done waiting" even when I typed it in the box immediately, would not recognize the ethernet cable, or USB cable. NOTHING. The buttons do nothing. Arrows would not move the page count up or down, info button did nothing, literally I think the whole key pad was busted - it did nothing. The plug in cord in the back is wiggly, so if you even shift the printer one millimeter the whole thing turns off or restarts. Everything feels cheap on this printer compared to my previous price comparable HP printers. Oh, and I have not been able to make it print, scan or copy, or setup, or go online. ABSOLUTLE GARBAGE. I spent the last 5 hours trying over and over to make this thing work to no avail. Sometimes would seem like it may have installed because the error/offline would stop showing, but then would go back to show offline and not respond again. Showed a few error codes on the printer screen throughout the process - 61 and one other one (FYI - 61 sounded really bad). At one point every single light was flashing with a % that would change at different times such as 49% or 79% with all the lights flashing. DO NOT BUY THIS, YOU WILL REGRET IT!! I have never yelled out loud, cried twice, prayed to the heavens all in a 5 hour period due to the frustration of this unit. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by TJS Engineer from HP is mass produced junk I purchased this figuring HP was a quality printer and scanner. It's made cheap and the scanner software constantly fails. I will never buy HP again, have seen their quality go down hill the more commercial they get. They used to have a name, now they are just mass produced junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Fast and quiet printer I have not purchased a new HP printer in over 15 years...my first one just died. I am learning how to use this one because it has more bells and whistles than my old LaserJet 2300. So far so good. I will have to update my review as I get more familiar with the printer. It is very fast in printing things out. The print is very clear. I like the feature of showing me how much toner is left in the machine. The printer runs fairly quiet. It's not loud or noisy. I have printed out the manual (yes, I am one of those people who reads manuals.) to help me get better acquainted with the machine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TSteel from Great Printer, Horrible Scanner for an office The printer part is great, and I highly recommend for the printer portion only. But the scanner part is awful. We bought this printer for our office and in order to scan, you have to put the papers in, walk back to your desk and scan from the desktop app, then go back and get your papers. This is more for a personal desktop scanner, not an office one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mr. John from HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw printer This printer is very hard to set up. HP should include the drivers and set up on a dvd. This would be a lot simpler than going through a Microsoft App. The Microsoft App has a lot of problems. I was with tech support for 4 hours and they finally concluded that the printer was defective. Received a new printer in 3 days and sent the defective printer back. What a hassle. I got the new printer to work after 2 hrs mostly by looking at utube videos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Chas_NC from Great printer (so far), but the driver setup was painful So far, I have been very happy with this and I am SO glad that it is not an inkjet printer - tired of clogging printer heads and then throwing away an expensive printer. A laser printer is more reliable by a long shot, and a monochrome is the cheapest cost per page. Since HP offers high capacity toner, this should be one of the cheapest per page, from my research. Hoping this HP laser printer last as long as the last one (about 9 years!). I installed this directly to my PC through the USB port to keep the printer off the network - for security purposes. This printer does have network capability and even web printing, but consider the safety of doing either of these. Note that getting the driver suite set up was VERY painful. I am an engineer and am very comfortable finding and loading drivers from websites. When I went to the HP site, it wants to load the HP assistant. But it would not accept the serial number for my printer (tried many times), and so I had to dig around to actually find the driver suite (driver and scanner / control program). Wow. And I mean wow. HP should just allow you to type in the model and get the drivers like everybody else does. Not sure why the reason for the hurdle of using the serial number. The HP PCs are the same way. Now that it is going, it has been working great and scans documents very well and with good color. Very happy with the final outcome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CaptainDaddy from HP hater turned I purchased this printer for my office at a repair facility for offroad equipment and other printers would last barely 8 months. This thing has no dust at all in it after a year, the toner lasts forever and we print probably 100 pages a day. It took a good 6 months to work through all the toner it came with. It was the easiest install, I plugged it in and it did the rest. This has been the most intuitive best printer I have ever had. I typically fight printers on day to day basis this thing has had no issues. 9.5/10 rating. My only dislike is the necessity of the HP smart app to gully utilize all the functionality. Sometimes I'm lazy and wish I could scan and copy with just the printer itself but it can only do so much for a "compact" desktop printer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Return a Coder from Raw toner refill great! But how many times possib Disclaimer: I was given this product free of cost in exchange for my honest opinion. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my honest opinion and grateful for the honorarium of keeping the product after my review. But I assure you that my review and opinion are genuinely honest and uninfluenced by the honorarium. Summary: Let’s cut right to the chase. For years, the most expensive implication in owning a printer is the consumable cost. Upfront cost is important, but it is vastly outweighed by the cost of consumables, assuming that you are printing on a regular basis. The HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw is HP’s latest attempt to address this issue, allowing users to refill the “raw” toner product inside the printer, instead of needing to use cartridges. The reduced impact on the environment is not to be disregarded either. Not only is less plastic being consumed to make toner and ink cartridges. There is also the impact of less traffic on the road, on the waterways, and in the airways to transport toner cartridges (or the weight of toner cartridges) both to AND from retailers and end users. From end users? Well, you are recycling your toner cartridges, aren’t you? Finally, let’s not forget that there is a benefit to HP as well. For years, third party toner cartridges and do-it-yourself toner refills have sapped sales on “genuine” toner cartridges. A less expensive consumable (selling the raw toner) means HP can get more of the sales of the consumables. And potentially deal with fewer headaches from customer support needs when non-genuine toner replacement causes problems with products. Primary Features: • This printer features the ability to refill toner using a bag/tube that can be purchased at a regular office supply store, or online. o NOTE: The printer that I received for my review was prefilled with raw toner already. So I did not get to experience the primary differentiating feature and selling point for this new type of laser printer… The actual refill process. It’s a bit lost on me why that feature was not offered for me to test, when the printer itself is not terribly different from any other multifunction laser printer: it scans, prints, and photocopies. • 600 x 600 dpi auto-duplex (two-sided) monochrome (black only, no color) laser printing. • Photocopying from a platen or auto document feeder. (non-auto-duplex document feeder) • Scanning from a platen or auto document feeder. (non-auto-duplex document feeder) • Printing on the letter and legal size paper, as well as other non-US paper dimensions, like A4. • Printing from mobile devices, PC, Mac, Linux. • Ability to use “Mopria” apps for printing and scanning. • Simple, but limited, “at the printer” button panel for photocopying. o Including “ID Card copying” that takes the front and back of a card, like a drivers license, and prints both sides of the card on one sheet of paper. o Including enlarging/reducing the zoom/% of the photocopied material. o Including changing copy quantities. • Possible printing via e-mail (where a HP ePrint e-mail address can be assigned the printer), but this feature did not work in my testing. • Wi-Fi, ethernet, Wi-Fi Direct, and USB connectivity. o Wi-Fi support for both normal SSID/passcode type wi-fi as well as wi-fi direct. Pros: • Refillable “raw” toner at a much lower cost and environmental impact than toner cartridges. o NOTE: The printer that I received for my review was prefilled with toner. So I did not get to experience and test the refilling process. • Visible indication of toner remaining in the printer, so that you know when a refill is necessary just by looking at the illuminated capacity meter. (no need to check the levels from a computer). • Ability to print from mobile devices. • Ability to photocopy without using a computer. • Ability to scan documents. • Auto document feeder. • Auto-duplexing of print jobs (prints front and back without the user having to reload the paper mid-print-job). Cons: • Extremely limited “at the printer” functions. There is only a simple, non-backlit display. o Unlike HP printers that have a touch display with a full menu system. • Possibility of a toner catastrophe…leaking the messy toner dust (carcinogenic?) during the refill process. o NOTE: It is possible that the refill process is foolproof. Unfortunately, I cannot say either way because the printer that I received for my review was prefilled with toner. So I did not get to experience and test the refilling process. • Entire set up process is done thru mobile or PC/Mac “app”. o For those who are familiar with setting up printers, especially Wi-Fi printers, you will need some patience and perseverance to use the apps. Personally, I found them extremely frustrating. o The entire setup process was designed to be “Easy” which really means obfuscating what is happening behind the scenes. So when it fails (which it did for me, several times), it is difficult to know why it is failing. o Note: Once the initial wi-fi setup is complete, the installation process for a PC or Mac is much more “normal” thanks to Windows/Mac printer auto-discovery (Bonjour, etc). • All scanning needs to be triggered from either: o A computer (TWAIN apps or proprietary HP App). o A mobile device using the proprietary HP App or a Mopria compliant app. o NOTE: I may be biased in that I come from using a lot of multi-function printers that allow scanning directly from the printer, including the ability to scan directly to an e-mail from the printer. Examples of my current printers include HP Laserjet Pro m277dw and HP Laserjet Pro m477fdn. Both of these printers have color touchscreen control panels to perform a variety of functions, including scanning and copying, with the ability to adjust scan and copy parameters. • The delay in workflow that comes from needing to open an app, tap the things needed in the app, do your scanning, and then go back to the computer…that delay and workflow interruption is jarring if you’re used to moving more quickly by using “at the printer” controls. o This is the biggest negative for me. • HP Connected / HP ePrint functionality appears to be present, but did not work for me. Most importantly, the e-mail-to-print function did not work (in spite of getting a confirmation e-mail that my print job was received). • Profile of the printer is unwieldy due to the paper tray jutting out from the front of the printer. • Control panel is not illuminated. Or if it is, it is done so poorly. It looks more like bleed-over from the backlighting of the buttons. • HP Support is not (yet) up to snuff for this device. When I attempted to contact HP, I could not get past the support contact form because my serial number was not recognized and the product number was not recognized. I’m sure this is the result of the product lineup being fairly new. Pricing: $419.99 Is the pricing justified? • In my opinion, absolutely not. • HP cut a lot of corners by using a simply control panel and forcing the user to rely on their own mobile device for the scanning functions. Think of it as your phone or tablet being the “touch screen control panel” that HP neglected to build into this product. • HP seems to be attempting up-front cost recoup on the consumables savings. o Put another way, charge more for the printer up front since the toner cost is lower over the lifespan of the device. o Remember that HP is saving money with this new toner approach as well. Much less plastic needed on their side. And much simpler machinery in factories. They are filling POUCHES with toner instead of manufacturing and testing (or remanufacturing and testing) entire toner cartridges. • At this price point auto-duplex functionality in the auto-document-feeder should have been included. • By comparison, my m277dw cost less than this MFP 2604sdw and the m277dw is a COLOR laser printer with scan to email functionality at the printer control panel and email to print functionality. • This printer is much more like a HP MFP M28w, which retails for under $200 and is often on sale. That multifunction printer has a better form factor (not jutting out tray). The different between the M28w and this MFP 2604sdw, in features, is that the 2604sdw has the less expensive raw toner refills. Recommendation: I cannot, in good faith recommend this printer. The exception would be if you were printing at such a high volume that you were going through more than two toner cartridges per month (you’ll save money with this printer) and can put up with the frustrating mobile app. Remember, I did not get to experience the refill process. I am also concerned with how many times you can refill this printer before it is no longer possible. Laser printers involve a certain amount of waste toner. Toner cartridges contain a compartment for this, so that the waste toner is effectively disposed of every time that you remove the cartridge. With a refill printer like this, it is unclear how the waste toner is collected and ultimately able to be disposed of. Will HP just make us buy a new printer after five or six toner refills? To be determined! But I’m hopeful that the printer can accommodate at least 10-12 high-yield refills. Without long-term testing to see if HPs claims on how many prints a refill of this printer can produce, it’s hard to see where the payoff is on the roll toner versus toner cartridges. So I feel like 10 to 12 high-yield refills is a reasonable number to expect this printer to take, before it needs to be disposed of or requires authorized service regarding the waste toner collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by janinem from Easy to use and efficient I received a free printer to review, and so far it's been a great product. Installation was very easy. The included directions asked me to install the HP Print application which handled the bulk of the installation process for me. The wireless printing feature works well, and I have the option to set up a unique email address for remote printing. So far, printing has been extremely fast and not very loud. I also have a similar model color printer by HP, and overall have been very happy with their recent products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SteveD2294 from Excellent business grade printer!!! After receiving a free sample pertaining to the HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw, I quickly found this this business grade device was not only a perfect fit for my small business, but exceeded my expectations! I have been using this printer a month and have found that it performs flawlessly thus far. The laser printing is quiet, extremely fast (even when printing double sided!), and the whole device fits in an extremely small form factor! The build quality and dimensions are perfect for any sized office or work space that typically prints in higher volumes (300-500+) sheets per month. The toner is rated on average to last up to 2 years and is extremely easy and costs effective to replace! I have had zero misfeeds or jams of my paper whereas our other printers struggled to keep up with this model of HP LaserJet Tank. Also, via the HP smart app, setup and connectivity felt extremely autonomous and was connected and up in running out of the box in about 5 to 8 minutes! Manuals and support materials are great and easy to follow, although I didn’t have to use them at all. It was a simple setup and operation with very few cords or parts to assemble. I highly suggest this LaserJet printer for virtually any small business that doesn’t use thermal printing for shipping labels or prints a large amount of black and white documents for themselves or their business! No complaints!! Love it!!!
