Rated 5 out of 5 by suepurkat from Only use HP Dont use other brands because they ink is very light colored and the cartridge doesnt last long. I tried 2 different kinds. One required replacing the chip in the cartridge. The second did not require it. Both cartridges only lasted 2 months. The HP has deep color and lasts long.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Unrealistically Expensive The cost of replacing toner cartridges is exhorbitant. The materials involved manufacturing the toner cartridges do not justify the high replacement cost. We participate in the recycling program. Why can't we purchase recycled cartridges, or at least get a credit to apply to replacements? This lowers my opinion of the HP brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from My return and reorder I ordered complete set of ink cartridges (4) for my printer. One of the four was not even for my printer and so was sent back and another one received. The invoice shows a price of $12 for shipping deducted from my initial refund. Why? I did not order it wrong and I was the one inconvenienced! otherwise the new one was installed and it all works perfectly

Rated 1 out of 5 by PC123 from A full set of CMYK costs 30% more than the printer itself. Cartridge works, but it has to. HP needs to figure out a way to make consumables at competitive pricing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Overpriced Toner and Forced Brand Loyalty I am extremely disappointed with the HP 218X Hi Yld Yll Toner W2182X and with HP as a company. The cartridge itself is outrageously expensive, and HP has intentionally locked their printers so you are forced to buy only their branded toner. Third party options that cost far less are blocked, even when they work perfectly well. This feels like a cash grab, not customer care. The printer hardware was reasonably priced, but the long term cost of ownership is absurd once you realize you are trapped into buying HP toner at inflated prices. There is no technical reason for this restriction other than profit. Print quality is fine, but it is nothing special or worth the premium. Plenty of other brands deliver comparable results without punishing customers at checkout. HP is prioritizing control and revenue over fairness and choice. This is the last HP printer I will ever buy. I strongly recommend anyone shopping for a printer look at brands that respect their customers and allow affordable alternatives instead of locking you into overpriced consumables.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lee Cooper from Held Hostage by HP I bought the HP 218X High Yield Cyan Original LaserJet Toner Cartridge expecting a smooth, premium experience. Instead, it felt like I was paying extra to stay trapped. HP’s ecosystem makes it unnecessarily hard to use alternative toner that should work just fine, and that “only HP approved supplies” approach comes off less like quality control and more like customer control. The bigger issue is the business model behind it. HP is effectively holding customers hostage by limiting which vendors can sell toner that will actually function in the printer. If HP wants loyalty, it should compete on quality and value, not by blocking competition and turning basic printing into a permission based system. This was the last straw for me. Between the high cost and the feeling that HP is prioritizing lock in over customer respect, this is the last HP printer I’m buying.

Without the gram weight of the toner its hard to understand which is a better deal, 218X or 218A cartridge....

Asked by: Arjay1
Thank you for your question! The gram weight of the actual toner is not available. However, the HP 218X High Yield has a page yield of up to 3200 pages while the HP 218A has a page yield of up to 1300 pages. Approximate average yield based on ISO/IEC 19752. Actual yield varies considerably based on the content of printed pages and other factors. For details, see http://www.hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies.
