Press Release:

HP Leads Convergent Mediation Market with HP OpenView IUM Software

HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced that industry analyst firm IDC ranked HP OpenView Internet Usage Manager (IUM) software No. 1 in the worldwide convergent mediation industry, based on revenue, with approximately 16 percent market share.

IDC defines the stand-alone market of convergent mediation in its June 2002 report, titled "Worldwide Mediation Forecast and Analysis," as the process by which network usage data is collected, validated, aggregated, corrected and converted into billable business statistics. HP OpenView IUM software supports this definition by enabling value-added billing, capacity management and subscriber analytics to develop strategic and profitable marketing programs.

The software is flexible, which enables it to easily complement existing infrastructure and processes, improve investment returns and minimize risk. HP OpenView IUM mediation solutions have been deployed in more than 90 wireline and wireless service provider networks to support prepaid and post-paid billing models.

"HP OpenView IUM software goes beyond the traditional mediation offerings of other vendors with solutions for voice and data services, revenue assurance and business intelligence," said Vikash Varma, general manager, HP OpenView IUM. "With this extended solution offering in the mediation space, HP customers obtain the technology that puts them ahead of the competition when it comes to rolling out value-added, usage-based services and thus maximizing revenue."

New areas of focus in the mediation market are emerging, including prepaid data services and business intelligence. Business intelligence technology is addressing service providers' needs for usage analytics to increase customer loyalty and boost average revenue per user.

"Business intelligence systems take in usage data from network mediation systems, perform statistical analyses, construct hypothetical pricing plans, model alternative revenue structures and report the results to service provider marketing departments and decision makers," said Levent Toros, billing analyst, IDC. "HP is using its OpenView IUM technology to aggressively pursue the business intelligence market as an opportunity to leverage mediation's critical position and value-add in the network."
