Press Release:

HP Introduces Mobile Workstation with Powerful Graphics Technology and Thin, Lightweight Design

Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w Ideal for "Design-on-site" Professionals

HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced a mobile workstation ideal for engineers, architects, artists, video producers and other notebook users who require powerful performance or graphics options in a thin, lightweight device.

For customers that require the ability to work from multiple locations, the MultiPort and MultiBay features of the Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w provide outstanding flexibility and allow easy integration of wireless, removable media and other performance enhancements.

"Design-on-site professionals have two major requirements -- raw power to run graphic-intensive applications and the freedom to be productive anywhere," said Kevin Frost, vice president of worldwide notebook marketing, HP Personal Systems Group. "The Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w empowers these users by providing them breakthrough 3-D graphics and the flexibility to execute on-location, real-time video editing from anywhere, attend technical sales calls, work from home and perform customer demonstrations on site."

"This mobile workstation from HP is amazing! It opens up a whole new world of capabilities for our Maya users around the world," said Bill Buxton, chief scientist, Alias|Wavefront. "The graphics are incredibly powerful, the processor, disks, everything in the system is workstation-class performance. But one of the strongest attributes is it's in a laptop package. HP has a real winner here. Our users are going to love the N800w."

The Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w is certified with the latest professional ISV workstation applications for a wide range of vertical segments, including:

  • digital content creation (DCC);
  • mechanical CAD/architectural engineering and construction; and
  • geographic information systems.
With weight starting at 6.0 lbs and a 15-inch panel, the Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w offers the advantage of ATI's MOBILITY Fire GL 9000 graphics technology. This new technology provides 3-D rendering and video performance for demanding workstation applications, OpenGL drivers for lightning-fast 3-D and 2-D graphics acceleration, superb image clarity for native and lower resolutions, fully programmable pixel and vertex shader support, dual monitor support and enhanced texture mapping performance.

Innovative features common to the Evo notebook series include: dual battery support via the MultiBay battery to provide more than seven hours of battery life; mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor-M with speeds up to 2.2 GHz; ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000 graphics controller with 64 MB dedicated video memory; and choice of up to a 15 inch UXGA display.

The Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w is expected to be available Sept. 30 with prices starting at $3,899.(1) Additional product features and information for the mobile workstation is available at
