Press Release:

HP Grows as a Leading Network Provider

Customers Invest in Networking Despite Industry Slowdown

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced significant growth in its share of the networking market during the second quarter of the 2001 calendar year. According to the Dell'Oro Group, HP Procurve network Ethernet switches moved up to the No. 3 position in 10/100 Ethernet switching(1).

The 10/100 switch market makes up approximately 60 percent of the overall Ethernet market in terms of revenue(2). HP's port shipments grew 30 percent in this category from Q1 to Q2 versus an overall market decline of 10 percent during the same period(2) -- moving HP ahead of Nortel Networks(1). Customers can scale the size of their network at minimal costs while maintaining high performance for an always-on Internet infrastructure.

"HP Procurve switching platform is a great product line. I have over 100 clients who in the past two years have decided to use it instead of their former product," said Bob Patrick, MXN Corp. "My clients' choice of HP Procurve products have resulted in significant savings. I recall one school system that installed a network with a gigabit backbone and switched to 10/100 BASE-T to about 500 drops. This was their first introduction to HP and it was a real eye-opener. Since that time they have replaced eight more school networks with HP Procurve networking products."

"Customers need high-performance network solutions to enable an always-on Internet infrastructure," said John McHugh, general manager, HP Procurve Networking. "HP's focus on competitive pricing, networking support services and trade-up programs help our customers meet their bottom line -- a message that resonates in this economy."
