Press Release:

HP Canada Ranks Third in ROB Magazine's Survey of Best 50 Companies to Work for in Canada

Maintains Last Year's Ranking

Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. has ranked third in Report on Business Magazine's annual survey of the Best 50 Companies to Work for in Canada, maintaining its ranking of third place last year.

The third annual survey included a questionnaire for CEOs and a confidential questionnaire that asked 250 randomly selected employees to comment on such things as their perceptions of their CEO, their working environment and their relationships with their colleagues. The survey also explored human resources and management practices and workplace culture.

"We've always known HP Canada is a special place to work and we're all delighted that the survey recognizes that," said Paul Tsaparis, president and chief executive officer of HP Canada. "It's particularly gratifying to maintain our ranking in 2001, a challenging and at times difficult year for many firms and their employees. The bottom line at HP Canada is that people make the difference. We're extremely proud of the team we've put together and this honour is one we all share."

HP Canada employee Linda Blakely, who has worked at HP for almost 15 years, praised the organization as a forward-looking company that remains dedicated to teamwork and innovation.

"HP Canada is a great organization that puts people first, and you can see the results in the survey -- people are proud to be a part of this company," said Blakely, national account manager, Consumer Business Organization, HP Canada.

HP has always been a leader in its commitment to employees. Its innovative employment and management techniques -- known as the "HP Way" -- are widely emulated in the business world today. For example, HP invented flextime. Now a standard offering with many employers, flextime was a radical notion in the 1950s when HP first introduced it.

HP also is recognized for an innovation known as management by wandering around, which encourages managers to stay close to their teams and be easily approachable.

The Best Companies to Work for in Canada survey was conducted on behalf of ROB Magazine by Hewitt Associates, a Toronto-based management consulting firm specializing in human resources.
