HP Computers Usher in New Levels of Design Innovation on Season Seven of Lifetime Television’s Hit Series “Project Runway”

TV show designers to create fashion using technology from HP and Intel

NEW YORK -- Fusing theworlds of fashion and technology, HP today announced with Intel aproduct integration with Lifetime Television’s hit show “ProjectRunway” that makes HP’s touch-enabled PCs and notebooks an integralpart of the creative process throughout the show’s new season.

Contestants will, for the first time in the history of the series,have the option to use computers to sketch designs and inspiretheir work. “Project Runway” season seven will premiere Jan. 14 at10 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.

“Technology is what’s next in fashion design. Forward-thinkingdesigners are exploring new ways to use technology in the designprocess,” said Barbara Schneeweiss, vice president of Productionand Development for TV and Feature Film at The WeinsteinCompany.

“We are excited about HP’s new technology and think it will add agreat new element to this season of Project Runway,” said JoAnnAlfano, executive vice president of Entertainment at LifetimeNetworks.

Throughout Project Runway’s seventh season, viewers can expect tosee some designers trade in traditional sketchpads and pens for HPPCs with Intel® processors that give them greater freedom toexperiment with design mock-ups for each challenge.

HP has been at the forefront of fusing fashion and technology sinceunveiling the HP Mini Vivienne Tam “ digital clutch“ notebook on the catwalk of Tam’s 2008 fashionshow at New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park. Models walked downthe runway with the peony-adorned Minis at hand, a first on anAmerican runway.

Last September, HP and Tam collaboratedagain to create the new look in digital clutch chic. The designreflects Tam’s Spring 2010 collection, inspired by the classicChinese love story, “Butterfly Lovers,” a beautiful tale offreedom, romance and inspiration. The Butterfly Lovers digitalclutch is expected to be available this spring with the rest ofTam’s collection.

Technology on the show

The “Project Runway” designers will have the opportunity to unleashtheir creativity using HP TouchSmartPCs and HPTouchSmart tm2 notebooks, both powered with Intel processors.The screen of the tm2 can be rotated around and converted to slatemode, morphing it into a sketchpad with digital pen. This allowsthe designers to draw, sketch and take notes with near limitlessoptions for colors, brushes and effects.

The winning designer of season seven will receive a $50,000 prizepackage from HP and Intel to create, design and run his or her ownbusiness.

“Project Runway” fans will have the chance to enter the Judge YourWay to a New Notebook contest by visiting,which goes live on Jan. 14. Entrants can predict the final topthree designers that will show their collections at New York’sFashion Week; those that guess correctly will be entered to win apremium HP Envy 15 notebook PC powered by the latest Intelprocessor.

Visitors to the website also can find information on the technologybeing used on the show’s new season and get a behind-the-sceneslook at the sketching process and final sketches.
