Press Release:

HP ProCurve Introduces Mid-Range Enterprise Switch; Extends Family of High-Performance Ethernet Switches

HP (NYSE:HPQ) ProCurve Networking today announced the HP ProCurve Switch 2626. Designed for mid-size enterprises that require a smaller, more cost effective switch without sacrificing performance, the Switch 2626 broadens the scope of HP's Ethernet switch offerings, providing a lower cost option as a part of the HP ProCurve Switch 2600 series.

"HP ProCurve is effectively meeting the demands of today's mid-range enterprise market," said Joshua Johnson, industry analyst at Synergy Research Group. "In our analysis of the Layer 3 stackable switch market, Synergy found 2002 revenue growth in this segment was 137 percent, compared to a 16 percent drop for Layer 2 stackable switches. HP is competing in this growing market by continuing to expand their ProCurve line. Further, the new HP ProCurve Switch 2626 is a wonderful fit for customers that are cost-conscious but also want great features and performance as well as world-class technical support."

The HP ProCurve Switch 2626 supports advanced network applications, including advanced network security and converged data and voice networks. With minimal configuration needs, the switch offers easy, plug-n-play enterprise deployment. The Switch 2626 provides the stackable 10/100 port density needed in smaller wiring closets today for aggregation at the edge of the network. With wire-speed performance and scalable port density, enterprises can utilize this lower cost option while still satisfying the performance demands of corporate environments.

"HP ProCurve security solutions provide detection and enforcement at every point of network access, for all current and future users and traffic types across our business," said Peter Wlcek, customer support manager, Nextra Telekom GmbH. "By deploying HP ProCurve solutions through our partner, Omega Handelsges m.b.H, we have high-performance, superior functionality and world-class security that protects our information assets. The HP ProCurve Switch 2650, and Switch 2626 when available in July, offer dramatic results at a price point that allows us to deploy next-generation solutions with enhanced wireless capabilities sooner than expected."

The HP ProCurve Switch 2626 is a low cost, stackable, multi-layer, managed 26-port switch with wire-speed performance, 24 auto-sensing 10/100 ports and 2 dual personality ports for 10/100/1000 or mini-GBIC SX, LX and LH connectivity. The switch provides robust security, offering layer 3 static routes which enable VLAN-to-VLAN communication and ensures efficient throughput between the wiring closet and data center. Extensive access and management security capabilities include IEEE 802.1x port-based access control with RADIUS network login for secure dynamic access to network services. MAC address lock-down adds further protection by granting switch port access only to authorized users. Management security features include TACACS+ for management user authentication and Secure Shell (SSH).

The HP ProCurve Switch 2626 is the latest addition to the HP ProCurve Adaptive EDGE Architecture family of products. The HP ProCurve Networking Adaptive EDGE Architecture delivers affordable, intelligent control to the edge of a network, allowing companies to more effectively manage complex applications, including mobility, security and convergence.

The HP ProCurve Switch 2626 will be available in the United States and in Asia Pacific on June 1. It will be available in Europe on July 1, and has a U.S. list price of $799.00 U.S. (1).

The product comes with lifetime hardware warranty and phone support at no additional cost, software updates, and next-day replacement in most countries.
