HP Supports National Black Chamber of Commerce Annual Convention in Birmingham

NBCC Business Xpress Program Enables Partners and Vendors to Promote and Sell e-Commerce Software Products from HP Cyber Café

For the third consecutive year, HP (NYSE:HPQ) is sponsoring the annual convention of the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian organization dedicated to the economic empowerment of African American communities.

As a platinum sponsor of the convention - now in its 11th year - and as the preferred technology provider to the NBCC, HP will provide Internet access to attendees through an HP Cyber Café. Inspired by the theme of this year's convention, "Entrepreneurship - From a Struggle to a Triumph," the Cyber Café promotes HP's small business growth and development initiative as the home of the NBCC's Business Xpress program.

The Business Xpress program allows business owners to apply for a micro-loan and use it to purchase technology tools for their businesses online. Partners and vendors of the program will present, demonstrate, promote and sell their e-commerce software products from the Cyber Café with HP products.

"We are honored to be the NBCC's technology sponsor and preferred technology provider to its member-chambers to deliver tools that will help them get more productivity and efficiency in their businesses," said Robyn West, vice president of small and medium business, Americas, HP Personal Systems Group. "We are committed to leveraging technology and intellectual capital to help build sustainable development among organizations that support small business."

"The roots of Black enterprise in America are very much tied to creativity and innovation," said Harry Alford, president and chief executive officer of the NBCC, which reaches 95,000 Black-owned businesses and provides an advocacy that represents one million Black-owned businesses in the United States. "HP, a valued friend and trusted partner to the Chamber, has beginnings rooted in creativity and innovation as well. This shared past helps us work together in the present and future to increase awareness and understanding among our local chamber members of ways to effectively use technology in business."

An NBCC Business Conference will feature top panelists from corporate America, rising entrepreneurial stars, university economic development experts and key decision-makers from all levels of government.

Business Matchmaking Program Coinciding with NBCC Annual Convention

Operating in cooperation with the NBCC convention in Birmingham is the Business Matchmaking Program, which brings contracts from major corporations and government agencies directly to small businesses. The program is co-sponsored by HP, the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

During the event, small business representatives will meet with buying representatives from government agencies and large corporations through individual appointments. The meetings are scheduled before the event by having suppliers (small businesses) and buyers (government agencies and corporations) complete online profiles. Based on the profiles, the best possible matches will be created.

In addition to the pre-set appointments, the Business Matchmaking Program provides small businesses with valuable insight on local financing options, information on how to apply for the Government Services Administration (GSA) schedule, access to technology resources and contracting with the federal government, and access to capital, international trade and trends in technology and marketing.

"We are extremely excited about tying this small business initiative into our convention and helping to deliver this kind of unique opportunity not only to our members but to small businesses in the area," said Alford. "We believe this opportunity is vital in educating, training and opening up doors for minority-owned small businesses, primary objectives of our organization."
