PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 18, 2002

view the hewlett-packard interactive press kit Now offering customers the broadest choice of workstations in the industry, HP (NYSE:HPQ) today marked the completion of its product line integration by introducing a new line of low-priced personal workstations.

HP also reinforced its commitment to the PA-RISC architecture with the introduction of two new technical workstations, and it additionally announced four new monitors, including a 20-inch professional flat panel monitor.

The aggressively priced Intel® Pentium® 4 and Intel® Xeon™ processor-based HP workstations provide customers with the performance and software support to meet their technology needs in areas such as finance, mechanical computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering (MCAD/CAE), digital content creation (DCC) and geographic information systems (GIS).

Offered directly from HP and through its broad network of leading distribution partners, the new personal HP Workstations xw4000, xw5000, xw6000 and xw8000 support Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional as well as Linux operating systems.

The new technical HP Workstations c3750 and j6750 are available with the powerful PA-8700+ processor running HP-UX. These new systems are designed to deliver compute and visualization performance with the stability and reliability demanded by traditional UNIX® users.

"With the addition of these new systems, HP's workstation product line is now the broadest portfolio in the industry," said Chris Christopher, senior vice president and general manager, HP Workstation Group Business Unit. "Customers may choose from three computing architectures -- Intel Pentium 4/Intel Xeon, Intel Itanium® or PA-RISC -- providing them with the performance, reliability and expandability options required in today's fast-moving technology world."

Personal Workstations

The entry-level HP Workstation xw4000 and mid-range HP Workstation xw5000 are single Intel Pentium 4 processor-based systems. With processing frequencies of 2.4 GHz, 2.66 GHz and 2.8 GHz, the speeds of these workstations help meet the demanding technical needs of customers. HP also is planning to support the Intel Pentium 4 processor at 3.06-GHz in the future.

The HP Workstation xw4000 is designed for entry-level 2D and 3D MCAD, 2D animation, video editing and publishing users seeking a value-priced system that also delivers optimized performance and reliability with OpenGL graphics and application certifications.

The HP Workstation xw5000 incorporates Intel's latest chipset, the Intel E7205. The new chipset helps create a premier single-processor system offering higher performance dual-channel DDR memory architecture for 2D solids modeling, 2D and 3D animation and video editing.

The mid-range HP Workstation xw6000 and high-end HP Workstation xw8000 incorporate the latest Intel Xeon dual-processor chipset, the Intel E7505 supporting dual-channel DDR memory architecture. These systems offer up to two Intel Xeon processors with a choice of 2.4-GHz, 2.66-GHz or 2.8-GHz frequencies.

The HP Workstation xw6000 is designed to fit more compute power into confined workspaces for customers involved in financial trading and analysis, 3D solids modeling, animation and GIS. It is ideal for financial traders and analysts seeking access to significant processing power, large amounts of simultaneous data presented visually and virtually uninterrupted access to real-time data streams, often in limited spaces.

The HP Workstation xw8000 provides DCC and MCAD/CAE power users with the high performance and expandability required for rendering, analyzing and simulating large data sets. With these users in mind, the workstation features OpenGL graphics support, AGP 8X Pro 50, large memory expandability, PCI-X and Ultra 320 SCSI disks.

Technical Workstations

The HP Workstation c3750 and HP Workstation j6750 are powered by the latest PA-8700+ processor running at 875 MHz with HP-UX 11.0 and HP-UX 11i 1.0.

The HP Workstation c3750 offers uni-processor RISC-based performance for engineers requiring the best in 3D modeling, prototyping and visualization.

The HP Workstation j6750 delivers industry-leading performance with unparalleled memory and compute density in a dual-processor RISC workstation. It is ideal for the high-end EDA IC designer or CAE analyst who needs a dual-processor UNIX system for design simulation and virtual prototyping.

Available software applications on HP workstations include, but are not exclusive of:

  • For DCC users: Adobe Illustrator, Premier and Photoshop; Alias|Wavefront Maya; Avid Xpress DV, DS HD, Media Composer and Symphony; CorelDRAW/Photo-Paint; Discreet 3D StudioMax and Combustion; and Macromedia Director, Flash and Authorware; Matrox Digisuite; Newtek Lightwave; Pinnacle Edition, Pro-ONE and Targa3000; Side Effects Software Houdini; SoftImage|3D and |XSI; and US Animation ToonBoom.
  • For MCAD users: Alias|Wavefront Studio; Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD; Bentley MicroStation; CADcenter; Dassault Catia SolidWorks; IronCAD; PTC Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/Mechincal; and EDS I-deas, Unigraphics and SolidEdge.
  • For CAE users: Ansys, Fluent and MSC.Nastran.

The HP workstation product line is rounded out with the Compaq Evo Mobile Workstation N800w, announced Sept. 23 and designed for customers who need the power of an HP workstation system and the freedom of mobility.

Workstation Monitors

To meet the demanding visual requirements of workstation users, HP is offering four new displays, including space-saving flat panel and performance CRT monitors.

The HP p930 19-inch CRT monitor offers superb flat-screen image quality and performance at an affordable price. Digital artists and designers will appreciate the razor-sharp clarity of the HP P1130 21-inch Professional CRT monitor. The HP L1825 flat panel monitor is a competitively priced, high-performance 18-inch monitor that is an ideal CRT replacement for workstation and high-end business users. The new HP L2025 20-inch Professional flat panel monitor is especially useful to technical designers with demanding visualization needs.
