Press Release:

HP and Manchester Craftsmen's Guild and Bidwell Training Center Celebrate Student-technology Program

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 12, 2002

HP (NYSE:HPQ) and the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG) and Bidwell Training Center, Inc. (BTC) will celebrate their ongoing collaboration at an on-site community reception and demonstration today at 5:30 p.m. EST at the MCG/BTC location at 1815 Metropolitan Street. MCG's new HP Digital Imaging Lab enables thousands of students to use their creative skills to produce a variety of multi-media projects with the latest digital equipment from HP.

In the lab, 200-300 students per week are using HP PCs to learn programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, DreamWeaver and Flash to create static and animated images for print and the Web.

"The collaboration between HP and MCG/BTC is an outstanding example of how a world-class, global-thinking company can partner with a community-based organization to enhance education through technology," said William E. Strickland, Jr., president and chief executive officer, MCG/BTC. "I believe this partnership will become the case study of how to do it right and will be emulated around the country and eventually around the globe."

Through HP's technology gift, all employees of MCG/BTC and their parent company, Manchester Bidwell Corporation, can now communicate through a newly installed e-mail network. In addition, students and staff can use the HP equipment in the library to enhance their educational experience.

"MCG/BTC is a model community development effort that strategically brings together the arts, education and technology," said Lewis Karabatsos, director, U.S. Strategy and Operations, HP Corporate Philanthropy and Education. "Through our collaboration we can rally our combined assets to create positive change."

The donation from HP represents a new collaboration between the organizations and serves as an HP demonstration site. The HP technology includes HP servers, desktop and notebook PCs, handhelds, scanners, printers, Digital Video Production kits and DVDs.

MCG Jazz, the performing arts division of MCG also is using the HP technology to develop a new in-house audio/video lab that features remote recording capabilities and technology that allow staff to interact with artists around the globe. This technology enables MCG Jazz to develop and market products using some of the latest audio and video recording systems.
