Press Release:

HP and Convergys Announce Integrated Billing and Customer Care Solutions for Telecommunications Service Providers

Alliance Enables Leading Service Providers to Lower Costs and Increase Customer Satisfaction
PALO ALTO, Calif., and CINCINNATI, Dec. 16, 2002

HP (NYSE:HPQ) and Convergys Corporation (NYSE:CVG) today announced an alliance to provide telecommunications service providers with integrated billing and customer care solutions based on HP UNIX® technologies. Under an agreement signed by the companies, HP and Convergys will coordinate product development and jointly pursue marketing and sales opportunities worldwide.

The agreement brings together two industry leaders in the business support systems (BSS) segment of the telecommunications network and service provider market. Convergys' highly scalable and flexible billing and customer care products are pre-integrated and among the most advanced in the industry. HP, with 25 years experience in the network and service provider industry, is a recognized leader in integrating, deploying and supporting billing and customer care solutions.

The companies expect to leverage their leadership positions to deliver more value to their clients. In today's market of evolving voice and data services, providers are looking carefully at their business support systems to increase operational efficiencies, lower costs and reduce churn by enhancing customer satisfaction. The more powerful, pre-integrated billing and customer care solutions, such as those proposed by Convergys and HP, help to achieve these objectives.

For example, major carriers such as BT (British Telecom) Wholesale in the United Kingdom and Indosat Multimedia Mobile in Indonesia have deployed an integrated rating and billing solution from Convergys on an HP platform.

"Running Convergys' Geneva software on an HP platform has proved an ideal solution for us in every respect," said Julian Wisniewski, manager of Wholesale Billing Systems, BT. "Not only have we realized carrier-grade functionality in areas such as security and scalability, but we also remain impressed by the system's day-to-day reliability and stability."

In addition, the agreement announced today builds on an existing alliance between Convergys and HP. Last year, HP selected Convergys as the first telecommunications billing company to participate in HP's Tru64 UNIX and Oracle's 9i Real Application Clusters Program.

"With our decades of carrier-grade experience, service providers know they can trust HP," said Marco Limena, vice president and general manager, Solutions Organization, HP Network and Service Provider Business Unit. "HP, in turn, is committed to a vibrant alliance partner ‘ecosystem' that includes leaders like Convergys. Through close cooperation, HP and Convergys can help our customers deploy proven and reliable solutions, quickly and cost-effectively."

"This alliance strengthens our ability to deliver Convergys billing and customer care products to operators who prefer HP platforms," said Randy Mysliviec, senior vice president of Marketing, Convergys. "Through this alliance, telecommunication service providers can better leverage the combined knowledge and experience of Convergys and HP to increase customer satisfaction, while lowering costs, accelerating revenue growth and differentiating their products and services for competitive advantage."

Convergys and HP have developed a demonstration of a convergent pre- and post-paid billing solution based on Convergys' award-winning Geneva software and HP's Opencall Intelligent Network platform. The companies premiered the demonstration at the HP Software Universe Symposium in Lisbon, Portugal.

Convergys' product line of highly scalable, end-to-end billing products, pre-integrated application suites, and application modules enables communication providers to create fully integrated billing and customer care environments that are adaptable, reliable and cost effective. Convergys products are based on its proven and innovative Next Generation Framework, a component-based architecture that provides unsurpassed flexibility, investment protection and support for convergent communication services.
