Press Release:

On the Move: 180 SAP Customers in 180 Days Move to Itanium-based HP Integrity Servers

SAP customers worldwide increasingly embrace HP Integrity servers to improve cost savings, productivity and operations efficiency
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 18, 2004

HP today announced that more than 180 SAP application customers worldwide have moved to the company's Intel® Itanium® 2 processor-based Integrity server platform since May. Customers report increased cost savings, productivity and operations efficiency on HP Integrity servers as they build more agile, responsive IT environments based on standard, modular systems.

Industry-standard Itanium-based Integrity servers are increasingly becoming the platform of choice for customers running SAP applications, signaling high customer confidence in the servers to meet their demanding business needs.

Companies and organizations across the globe have turned to powerful HP Integrity servers to run solutions such as mySAP ERP, in particular, applications like SAP Advanced Planning & Optimization (SAP APO) and SAP Business Intelligence, a component of the SAP NetWeaver™ platform.

"We have been live on the HP Integrity Superdome running HP-UX 11i and SAP solutions since mid-2004 and are delighted by the results. We now have a scalable, future-proof foundation that delivers exceptional value upfront with low ongoing cost of ownership," said R.R. Rodriguez, director of computing resources, Texas State University. "Our new HP and SAP solution is allowing us to grow and adapt to shifting demands in higher education. HP and SAP consistently met our needs during implementation and afterward with in-depth knowledge and responsive service that's rare in the IT world."

Other customers include: Asiana Airlines (Korea), Bharat Forge (India), The Body Shop (UK), Industrias Metalurgicas Unidas S.A. (Columbia), Koehler Group (Germany), Linfox (Australia), Pilsner Urquell (Czech Republic), Telefonica de Espana (Spain), State of Florida Department of Revenue (US), Sundaram Clayton (India) and Volvo IT (Sweden).

"For customers that require uncompromising levels of IT performance, HP Integrity servers provide the performance, scalability and flexibility needed to deliver an excellent return on their IT investments and total cost of ownership," said Rudi Schmickl, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Storage and Servers – EMEA, HP. "HP works closely with SAP to optimize performance of HP Integrity servers running SAP software solutions and certify its full line of servers as part of the SAP Standard Application Benchmark program."

Adoption rates of Integrity servers continue to grow as customers and independent software vendors recognise the benefits that HP Integrity servers offer, including advanced manageability features and ease of integration into heterogeneous environments for more simplicity.

The HP Integrity server family is the only one in the industry that can run SAP applications under all three of the most widely used operating systems: HP-UX 11i – the industry's leading UNIX® operating system, Microsoft Windows® Server 2003 and Linux in conjunction with Oracle or Microsoft SQL server 2000 databases. In all, more than 2,700 software applications are currently available with the HP Integrity server family.

"By consolidating multiple SAP and GEICO environments with a single HP Integrity Superdome server, we expect to eliminate `silos' of information, reduce IT costs considerably, and enhance the performance of our infrastructure by 50 percent," said Horacio Perez Perdigo, managing director of Organization and Information Systems, Telefonica de Espana. "For the same outlay we make on maintenance now, we can have a strong infrastructure that will place us at the cutting edge of technology worldwide."
