HP today announced it has been positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant in industry analyst firm Gartner, Inc.’s evaluation of the IT Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) market.(1)

The HP Project & Portfolio Management Center helps IT organizations prioritize their strategic initiatives and ensure those projects are properly executed and deliver successful business outcomes from inception to completion.

Gartner considers applications to be in the PPM market if they support most of the nine areas described in the Project Management Body of Knowledge from the Project Management Institute. The prerequisite core is an integrated approach to the areas of resource, time and cost management.

According to the Gartner report, leaders “distinguish themselves with relatively high ratings in many characteristics. … Product depth in such core areas as advanced scheduling, resources and cost management. … Their product development often drives toward a more holistic offering – for example, providing a means of monitoring processes and decisions from IT service management and application life cycle management (ALM) tools. …

“… Even as large enterprises seek expanded IT planning and control with PPM as a key enabler, PPM value has become apparent to organizations of all sizes,” the report continues. “The integration of project portfolio, IT service and ALM functions into a cohesive IT Planning and Control (ITPC) offering is under way.”

HP Project and Portfolio Management Center provides enterprise capabilities that support customers implementing centralized ITPC initiatives. With HP’s modular approach, customers can select ITPC starting points that meet their individual needs, whether they start with project management, financial management or resource management.

“HP PPM Center is an integral component of HP’s software strategy to help customers optimize the business outcomes of IT. It provides real-time visibility and control over the entire IT portfolio to business stakeholders,” said Jan Sondergaard, vice president, Products, Software, HP. “We are proud to be positioned by Gartner in the leaders quadrant for our completeness of vision and ability to execute.”

HP awarded “Most PPM Synergy” at Gartner PPM Summit 2007

HP Project & Portfolio Management Center won the “Most PPM Synergy” Innovation Award at Gartner’s Project & Portfolio Management Summit 2007 in Boston. Judges, consisting of IT professionals attending the event, awarded HP “Most PPM Synergy” for combining great portfolio analysis with ease of configuration, powerful resource scheduling and strong quality processes. In addition, this award recognized HP PPM Center for its capabilities in time, cost and risk management.

The award also highlights HP for demonstrating to managers and executives the synergies realized by addressing complementary project, application and portfolio management processes in an integrated solution.

“We are thrilled to have HP PPM Center be recognized by industry professionals attending Gartner’s Project & Portfolio Management Summit for its innovative and synergistic set of capabilities to the PPM marketplace,” said Sondergaard.
