Keeping information on a PC secure is important. Consumers and corporations alike take great steps to keep their files safe – creating hard-to-crack passwords, installing powerful anti-virus software and securing their wireless connections.

But there’s one area where many of us remain exposed – the computer screen itself. Whether we’re tapping away at a busy airport terminal or a neighborhood coffee shop, an exposed screen allows sensitive information to be viewed by anyone who just happens to glance over our shoulders.

On the business side, “visual hacking” or “shoulder-surfing” – is an increasing concern for company CIOs who are tasked with managing a new crop of highly mobile workers, with almost 60 percent reportedly taking their work outside office walls, according to Pew Research Center.

HP, along with partner 3M, has found a way to address this largely-overlooked security gap. Today, HP unveiled the world’s only notebooks with integrated privacy screens. HP Sure View, a new integrated feature of the HP EliteBook 1040 and EliteBook 840 laptops, helps protect against visual hacking with the press of a single button.

“Today’s millennial workforce is increasingly mobile, creating new data security challenges for businesses as confidential information can be more easily hacked from a user’s screen – a process called visual hacking,” said Alex Cho, vice president and general manager, Commercial PCs at HP. “The addition of HP Sure View to our PC security solutions helps address the risks associated with visual hacking and gives customers the freedom to work more confidently and productively in public spaces with the touch of a button.”
