Want to run Windows 8.1 on your Windows 7 PC?²

I have a PC with Windows 7 preinstalled, and a Windows 7 license.

HP may not have tested Windows 8.1 on your Windows 7 PC.

You may lose basic functionality and stability if you try to install Windows 8.1 directly.

HP may have developed drivers and instructions to upgrade your Windows 7 system to Windows 8. Visit the HP Windows 7 to Windows 8 upgrade page for more information.

I have a system that was preinstalled with Windows 7, but has a Windows 8 license and/or Windows 8 restore media.

For certain HP systems shipped after the launch of Windows 8, HP offered customers the opportunity to downgrade the system to Windows 7 and receive Windows 8 restore media in the box.

Drivers and instructions are available for many of these systems.

If your system came with Windows 8 recovery media, you should use that media to install Windows 8. Afterwards, you should then proceed with the Windows 8.1 update instructions.

Alternatively, you may wish to utilize the "clean install" instructions to Windows 8.1 directly. Clean install instructions are intended for commercial systems only.
