HP Consumers in the UK to get Improved Customer Support

UK and Ireland service centre brings 170 jobs to Teleperformance in North East of England

Gateshead, UK. June 6, 2011 – HP today announced the establishment of a major UK customer support and operations centre in Gateshead run by one of its global customer support providers, Teleperformance. The facility will provide improved front line service to UK and Ireland customers of HP printers and computers and has created 170 new jobs.

Staff at the facility will deal with approximately 1,500 calls per day on issues such as customer service, sales and technical support. Teams in Gateshead will also support HP customers in social media environments.

The centre will cover HP’s comprehensive product line including PCs, portable computing products and inkjet printers. The facility is run by Teleperformance, one of HP’s global providers of customer support services.

The centre was officially opened by Gateshead MP Ian Mearns, and Nick Wilson, VP and Managing Director, HP UK & Ireland, on their visit to Gateshead.

“In today’s uncertain economic climate, the creation of 170 new jobs in Gateshead is great news; a clear statement of confidence about the skills, abilities and customer focus of the North East’s workforce,” said Ian Mearns.

“Excellent customer service is a priority for HP. We are focusing our printing and computing support centre in the UK to ensure our UK and Irish customers get the quality of service that they expect from HP,” said Nick Wilson.

Jeff Smith, Teleperformance’s Chairman, also noted: “We are delighted to be further developing our relationship with HP and providing a centre in Gateshead for the benefit of HP’s UK and Irish consumers. Incorporating all of Teleperformance’s Global Best Practice, we are confident we will deliver the very best in customer service and technical support.“

Trade and Investment Minister, Lord Green said; “HP’s decision to open a new UK customer support and operations centre in Gateshead with Teleperformance is great news for the local economy and I wish them every success with their plans. Attracting inward investment across the UK is a key priority for the Government and I will be working with the business community to ensure we continue to provide the right support.”
