HP Helps Serco ASP Deliver High Quality Shared Services

Leading NHS shared service provider boosts IT efficiency with HP Converged Cloud

LONDON, UK, Oct 17, 2012 – HP today announced that Serco’s Anglia Support Partnership (Serco ASP), one of the UK's leading shared services providers, has selected HP to help improve the quality and efficiency of its healthcare services.

A robust, high-performance HP Converged Cloud solution based on HP CloudSystem and HP Storage will help Serco ASP improve essential services by managing people, processes, technology and assets more effectively.

Serco ASP provides a wide range of shared services to the NHS and other health-oriented organisations in the East of England, including recruitment, payroll, pensions, purchasing and financial services. The company currently produces 42,000 payslips per month on behalf of its customers from its integrated service centre in Huntingdon, and operates four primary care support centres in Cambridge, Ipswich, Witham and Norwich.

HP CloudSystem will provide a geographically resilient dual data center solution to support Serco ASP’s multi tenancy shared services platform. The centralised infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform based on an open, common architecture will enable Serco ASP’s IT team to provision complex infrastructure and applications in minutes instead of months. Resources can be easily allocated across the physical and virtual environments to ensure predictable delivery and service levels.

Consolidating Serco ASP’s data storage resources with flexible, scalable HP 3PAR V400 Storage will boost IT performance and availability. HP 3PAR Thin Provisioning Software, fully integrated with the HP CloudSystem for on-demand provisioning, will reduce costs by enabling Serco ASP to purchase only the disk capacity they actually need, as they need it. To keep Serco ASP’s Clinical Governance Team compliant, an HP StoreOnce B6200 Backup system will deliver fast, disk-based data protection while reducing backup times by more than 5 hours each day.

Replacing legacy servers with HP ProLiant BL465 G7 server blades will save Serco ASP data center floor-space and costs, while HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Modules will enable massive virtualisation, allowing Serco ASP to provide right-sized architectures within restricted NHS budgets.
