HP Reinforces Leadership in Large-Format Printing to Capture Growing Signage Printing Market in Asia Pacific and Japan

BANGKOK, Asia Pacific, November 28, 2008 – HP today outlined its strategy to reinforce its leadership position in the large-format digital printing segment with its expanded portfolio targeting the growing indoor and outdoor signage market in Asia Pacific and Japan. HP is also announcing it’s latest large-format digital printing solutions at the inaugural FESPA World Expo Asia Pacific 2008 that is dedicated to screen and wide-format printing technologies.
 
In large-format printing, HP held the number one position with 37% market-share in the A1 and above category in Asia Pacific and Japan for Q2 calendar year 2008(1). HP has been holding the number one position for 22 consecutive quarters in the region(1).

Unveiling new digital printing products and technologies for graphic arts customers 
 
HP today unveiled its latest digital printing products and technologies, which are designed to enable signage print service providers to build their competitive advantage and successfully pursue profitable growth opportunities. Most of the new products and technologies are being demonstrated for the first time in Asia Pacific at the HP booth (#A10 and #C10) at FESPA World Expo Asia Pacific 2008:
  •  HP Scitex FB950 Printer (new) – The HP Scitex FB950 Printer is a robust, high-volume flatbed UV printer that provides consistent high-quality point-of purchase/point-of-sale (POP/POS), tradeshow and event signage on virtually any rigid(2) or flexible media(3). 
  • HP Designjet L65500 Printer – Designed with the environment in mind, the HP Designjet L65500 Printer features HP Latex Inks and HP Wide Scan Technology. A versatile print system, it delivers durable, odorless(4) prints, sharp, vivid image quality, application versatility, and high productivity.
  • HP Scitex XP2300 Printer (new) – Ideal for high-speed production environments, the HP Scitex XP2300 Printer is the first 3.2-m-wide UV outdoor signage production printer and features advanced capabilities designed to maximize productivity, eliminate workflow bottlenecks, and reduce ink and media costs.
  • HP Scitex TJ8350 Printer (new) – The HP Scitex TJ8350 Printer delivers excellent quality output at speeds of up to 480 m2/hr with sharp small text on a wide choice of supported substrates and HP Scitex TJ110 Specialty Inks, which provide an achievable two years of outdoor ink durability(5) and reduced environmental impact with zero hazardous air pollutants(6).
  • HP Scitex TJ8550 Printer – The HP Scitex TJ8550 Printer delivers a powerful combination of high throughput, cost-effective production and high output quality for a variety of wide-format applications, with an achievable two years of ink outdoor durability(7). 
  • HP Scitex FB7500 Printer (new) – The HP Scitex FB7500 Printer delivers industry-leading productivity with its high print speed, low cost per sheet, outstanding media versatility and efficient, automated workflow, delivering the highest productivity of digital flatbed printers in its price class(8).
 Capturing the growing signage market in Asia Pacific
 
Capitalizing on the growing market opportunity for outdoor advertising, HP outlined its strategy to solidify leadership in the signage industry. Globally, the market for outdoor advertising projected to grow by US$4.81 billion to reach US$29.86 billion by 2010, with Asia Pacific being a key driver of worldwide growth at a 10.18% compound annual growth rate from 2007 to 2010(9).
 
HP plans to capture the market and maintain its industry leadership in the region through:
  • Continued product innovation – HP will continue to introduce leading new products and solutions to defend its leadership, and grow market share across various large-format printing categories.
  • Strengthening of customer and sales teams – HP will be expanding its customer service team with more hardware and application engineers and specialists to expand geographic coverage in emerging markets, as well as reorganizing its sales force into teams of specialized product segment experts to provide tailored, in-depth support for customers in the region.
  • Increased infrastructure investment – To better meet customer needs, HP will be setting up a HP Scitex regional training centre in Hong Kong by early 2009. In addition, HP will be increasing the inventory of related spare parts to better meet increasing demands of customers in the region.
