HP India and TERI celebrate World Environment Day with Eco Fair


Hewlett-Packard (HP) , in partnership withThe Energy andResources Institute (TERI), as part of the TERI Schools Future Program celebrated World Environment Day and organized an Eco Fair for the student community.




The eco fair witnessed active participation from students representing various schools in activities such as on the spot painting and quiz competitions that focused on environmental issues. Several leading agencies including Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited,Karnataka State Pollution Control Board,E-Parisaraa Pvt Ltd, Farmland Rainwater Harvesting Systems, Jute Cottage,Daily Dump,Saahas andAsh Recyclerswere also present at the eco fair to educate the students on issues related to e-waste management, rainwater harvesting systems, renewable energy devices, biodegradable wastes recycle and reuse processes, display of TERI publications. Schools also displayed eco-friendly articles made by students in the Fair.


Speaking on the occasion, Ms Teresa Bhattacharya, Former Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, said, “It is rewarding to see the enthusiasm shown by young school children to save the planet”.


“At HP, our investment in environmental initiatives such as the HP-TERI School Futures Program is part of our comprehensive philanthropic strategy,” said Ms. Bina Raj-Debur, Director, Corporate Marketing, Hewlett-Packard.“Today, we are addressing environmental challenges with smart, practical and innovative solutions that help us and our customers conserve resources, minimize impact while also saving money and increasing productivity. With our partnership with TERI, we aim to educate and inspire young minds in protecting the environment,” she added.

In his welcome address, Mr. P. R. Dasgupta, Senior Advisor, TERI & Director, Bangalore International Centre, outlined the impact of global warming on world environment and stressed that everyone had a stake and a responsibility to make this planet more habitable through appropriate attitudinal changes.


In, HP has been actively involved in programs that reinforce its commitment to increasing access to information technology, environmental responsibility and social investment in the community.




About Hewlett Packard – TERI Schools’ Future Programalsoknown asIM-PACTS - Innovative Methods: Programme on Action Oriented Clean Technologies in Schools- an initiative to improve environment projects in schools.

As a part of the project, HP India has awarded a grant* of Rupees One crore Sixteen lakhs comprising cash and technology resources to TERI for the program.


The primary objective of this partnership is to create a motivated force of students, leading to cleaner and greener school campuses, and initiate ecologically beneficial initiatives in the field of energy, e-waste management and greening of neighborhoods.
