HP Helps CHIREC Improve Patient Care
HP announced today that the Edith Cavell Interregional Hospital Group (CHIREC) has improved patient care with a powerful, scalable HP network that accelerates the sharing and analysis of digital imaging for high-precision diagnostics.
CHIREC is comprised of five private hospitals and one medical center with more than 1,000 beds and is known for its excellence in gynaecology, obstetrics and medically assisted fertility treatment (IVF). With more than 5000 births per year, CHIREC has the largest maternity program in Belgium. The group is recognised for its excellence in orthopaedics, hand surgery, ophthalmology, bariatric surgery, oncology, plastic surgery and neurosurgery. Its 4000 staff, including 1100 doctors, handle 98,000 admissions annually.
"In the past, our hospitals have been impacted by downtime of the core network infrastructure, so we needed to ensure IT continuity," says Luc D’Haene, ICT Director, CHIREC. "In addition, our bandwidth-hungry digital imaging solutions required more network speed and more 10GB links. With HP, CHIREC now has a cost-effective, easily managed network core that can scale easily to handle massive data growth over the next five years."
Experienced HP Networking partner Prodata Systems ensured a smooth migration without interruption to the hospitals’ functions, including the re-cabling of all sites. Prodata also maintains the reliability of CHIREC’s mixed IT environment with a fully managed 24x7 service solution with one hour maximum response time.
In each of CHIREC’s data rooms at the main Edith Cavell site, dual redundant 10GB HP 7506 Switches deliver the performance and low latency necessary for secure, high-speed communications. At the Braine-l’Alleud and Lambermont sites, dual redundant HP 5800 Switches automatically assign VLANs (virtual local area networks) to free bandwidth for high-speed video and voice traffic as well as data.
HP Intelligent Management Centre (IMC), software provides single pane-of-glass management of CHIREC’s HP switches, easing the workload on the IT team and boosting productivity. The network is scalable for future needs, and enables maintenance without downtime to ensure continuity of patient care.
"On an ongoing basis, HP will enable CHIREC to utilise its state-of-the-art medical equipment to its full potential," says Gunther Van Audenhove, Country Manager, HP Networking. "HP and Prodata Systems will ensure that CHIREC can offer service availability to support the highest levels of patient care."
