Ordering the 7740 was easy and delivery was very fast. Setting up was simple. I have not yet used all features, but so far this seems to be the best machine I have ever had.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Peter from HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 a pleasant surprise. The HP 7740 is as big as its measurements state. No getting around that. Make sure you have the space to put it in. My use of it on Linux was a little hard to get working but once I understood how the multiple "printers" worked all was well. It prints photos MUCH better than my old HP workhorse which finally gave up after 17 years (yes that's right HP PSC2510 April 2004). A4 and A3 duplexing is great, no more putting the paper back in the tray in that "special" way. Cost of ink can be mitigated to some extent by using the XL cartridges and searching for the best price online. Overall a working printer that does what I want and was not broken "out of the box" which is all you can ask. I hope this one lasts 17 years too!

Setting the printer physically up was easy, connection to existing ethernet was drama free and the software required installed without problems. The self testing was faultless. The first batch of printing was successful although there was a paper jam which has not occurred since. The printer is noisier than our previous HP printer but the noise is acceptable.

We had 6 people using it for different creative businesses over 3 years and no probs with it. Buying a printer can feel like a gamble so I knew if I got this one I wouldn't be disappointed, and it looks better in a light/minimal interior than your standard black. PS Keep well stocked on ink if you are a creative!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Richard from When it works it is good Bought this mainly for A3 printing onto thicker (160gsm) paper. First one I purchased wouldn't print to tray 2. HP organised pickup and sent me another. Took ages to get this one to work at all. The app said printer was off-line but I could scan from it which to me didn't add up. Eventually I canned the HP App, removed the printer from the PC then reinstalled it. Used only standard Win 10 print preview and setup and eventually got it to work. I changed the top tray to be A3 and the setting to A3 for tray 1, A4 for tray 2. If I tell an A4 document to print by letting the printer decide it prints everything to A3 being Tray 1. I've now finally got it working well but only by choosing the tray with paper size required. Using the app I was getting it to fit to margins and seemed to be in draft mode as text was grey and linework very poor quality. HP help is enthusiastic, but lacking in knowledge of basic printer functionality and procedures. They need training that goes beyond the 'idiot sheet' approach. It's not fair on the support person to have them placed in such a position. The printer probably is very good, time will tell. One thing I don't like is the way A3 sheets are held in a tray that has to be extended. It sticks out from other and isn't as closed off as the one with A4. Dust an rubbish could easily enter the tray. Coming from a true business A3 laser multifunction this was a bit of a shock. Expect get what you pay for. Probably wouldn't buy again

Rated 1 out of 5 by JD20 from Very disappointed When I bought this just about a month ago, I was happy to deal directly with HP and thought that I would be well covered should anything go wrong. I live rurally so getting to a physical store is a bit tricky. Printer arrived used it a couple of times started to get an error message about the scanner. Went through the WhatsApp chat to try to get some trouble shooting and was ignored for over an hour, after an initial acknowledgement. So, by then, it was "business hours" so I rang the number, spent another 1.5-2 hours on the phone trouble shooting, luckily it was a home office day for me hey? The good news was the technician made a time to call me back the next day, to check the situation was resolved. It transpired, however, that this was for a time the "business centre" was not actually open. Anyhow fiddling around with that "glitch" I managed to reconnect and was told a replacement would have to be organised for delivery to my home. However, I was then expected to do a whole extra set of trouble shooting, the same things over again, I would imagine. I had appointments away from the home, and did not have another 2 hours to spend on the phone, I had to postpone this activity. I am now back from a short break, it's the weekend and I have just sent another email to start the process all over again. A brand spanking new machine should not have these issues and cause me to be inconvenienced for so far close to 4 hours with technicians and who knows how many more hours to go, should I have lived in a town or city, I would have simply returned the product to the store. Truly not good enough Always used HP Products and always been happy, this time I've got a lemon and the assistance is not turning out to be great ....

Couple of points to improve, duplex Web printing missing and scan to email bit slow. However it does all that I purchased this printer to do.

It took me less than 15 minutes to set up 4 Android devices and two Apple devices. The App on the PC and on the devices are excellent. I loved the way it was able to tell me that the fax was linked up correctly and working. And A3 printing as well! Even high quality printing on A3 photo paper is quick. (What got me onto it in the first place was the printer review by Choice.)

The printer driver does not remember paper tray settings and cannot auto select. When changing between paper sizes the tray needs to be manual selected in the driver to avoid getting an error. Also the wireless capability is limited. After a short period the printer disconnects itself requiring it to be rebooted to reconnect.

I bought this printer to pair with my new HP Pavilion desktop, to brighten up my office and improve my productivity around document handling to achieve a "paperless" office. The A3 print capability is there just in case I need it but best of all I like the scanner and the simple but effective document handling capability that came with it. The only downside was an initial problem with wireless connectivity but thanks to HP Support, got this sorted quickly. This is a great printer for my home office ... and it looks good!
