Getting Started - Using Command Line Interface Commands

HP Systems Inventory Manager provides a command line interface (CLI) in addition to the graphical user interface (GUI). All functionality available in the GUI is available through the CLI. This topic provides a list of the HP Systems Insight Manager commands available, a brief explanation of the command functionality, and a link to the associated manpages.

HP Systems Insight Manager commands are installed in the following locations on the CMS.

Command	Functionality	Available manpages
mcompile	Compiles an SNMP MIB file into an intermediate format (.CFG) file for importing into HP Systems Insight Manager using the mxmib command.	command
mxagentconfig	Configures the agent to work with a central management server (CMS).	command
mxauth	Adds, removes or lists a toolbox based authorization.	command file
mxdomainmgr	Contains the object managers that interact with the database and the Distributed Task Facility (DTF).	command
mxdtf	Contains the DTF that is used to remotely execute commands on managed systems that are equipped with Secure Shell (SSH).	command
mxexec	Executes tools and verifies the status of running tools and also allows a full privileged user to kill or cancel a running task.	command
mxinitconfig	Performs initial configuration for a DTF agent and the CMS.	command file
mxmib	Adds, deletes, and processes a list of MIBs for HP Systems Insight Manager. Also lists registered MIBs and lists traps for a specific registered MIB.	command
mxngroup	Adds, modifies, remove or list system groups from HP Systems Insight Manager.	command file
mxnode	Adds, modifies, or removes systems from the HP Systems Insight Manager management domain.	command file
mxnodesecurity	Adds, modifies, or removes security credentials for SNMP and WBEM protocols.	command
mxpassword	Adds, lists, modifies, or removes passwords stored in HP Systems Insight Manager.	command
mxquery	Adds, lists, modifies, or removes lists in HP Systems Insight Manager.	command file
mxrepositoryrestore	Restores the HP Systems Insight Manager database from a previously created backup.	command
mxrepositorysave	Backs up the HP Systems Insight Manager database.	command
mxserver	Starts, stops and changes the SSL port number for the embedded Web server on the CMS.	command
mxstart	Starts daemons or processes used by the CMS.	command
mxstm	Adds, removes, and lists System Type Manager rules.	command
mxstop	Stops daemons or processes used by the CMS.	command
mxtask	Lists, executes, removes, creates, and changes ownership for the HP Systems Insight Manager scheduled tasks.	command file
mxtool	Adds, modifies, and removes tools.	command file
mxtoolbox	Adds, modifies, or removes toolboxes from the HP Systems Insight Manager system.	command file
mxuser	Adds, modifies, or removes users from HP Systems Insight Manager.	command file
